Update on the Map Disk - No Good News

I've been keeping track of when Mazda will release an update. First, the MazdaUSA website claims that NAVTEQ does updates. When I queried them late last year, they claimed DENSO Japan did updates. I queried DENSO. Denso responded that Mazda was responsible and so it goes. I've attached the email exchange:

Not much we can do, other than perhaps start a letter-writing campaign and complain, en-masse. If I'd known a year ago what I know now, I'd have made other choices. Wish I could replace the OEM, but I've other priorities for my discretionary cash.

Even though I don't have the tech package radio anymore, if you guys do organize a letter-writing campaign I'll surely contribute.

I've been googling around for map updates as well. Looks like our map provider is the same as Toyota/Lexus. The latest for Toyota/Lexus is also currently version 6.1. The same version that we have.

I'm assuming that when there is something for the Toyotas, we'll see something too. Or at least we'll know that the map provider has it...

Thanks Vince. While the outdated map hasn't really affected me yet except for this one instance that I searched for a Thai restaurant and I was led to a liquor store...LOL, I am for the update.

Maybe one should start a petition letter and members here will e-sign then emailed to the corresponding parties.

I am still waiting for Alpine's release of the PMD-B200 and still researching....

Vince I have had similar experience with my RX-8. Mine is a early 2004 which
was produced in 2003. In those years Mazda used a Panasonic Nav which used Navtec maps. Our CX-7's as well as most newer Mazdas now have a Nav unit from Denso.

My RX-8 was shipped with Navtec map 2002.1, which was most likely written in 2002. In late (August) 2005, a 2005.1 map was released. This Navtec map update cost Mazda RX-8 owners $199 for this updated map. As of today this is the latest updated map for the early RX-8 owners.(rant)

Let's hope that Denso is better (and cheaper) on updated maps.

I have an 06 RX-8 and just got an 08 CX-7. They both have the SAME maps just different versions of software for the touch screen vs the 8's joystick. I WANT NEW MAPS FOR BOTH. This is ridicules.....(rant)(strike)(strike)(no)

Currently Mazda is awaiting updates from Navteq to be produced. We have been informed that Navteq is still in the process of creating new updates for all the Mazda models. I recommend checking back with Mazda in the next 90 days.

I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you as Mazda does not want anyone less than satisfied with his or her ownership experience. We appreciate your patience throughout this situation.

Noticed that Toyota/Lexus got an update to their systems from 6.1 to 7.1 back in October. They use a Denso GPS system like the Mazda CX-7. They are available on ebay.

I called Mazda, but they didn't have anything yet.

Hmm.. wondering if you stuck a Toyota or Lexus DVD into the Mazda system what would happen? Anyone have one?

In regards to your inquiry, Mazda is currently in negotiations with both Navtech and Denzo (the two manufacturers of the software and hardware) to see who will be selling the updates to customers. Once negotiations have concluded Mazda will be able to inform you of where you can purchase these updates. I apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience in this matter.

Funny. Mazda tells me that if someone wants to update, to order the most current supercession of DVD straight out of the parts catalog. In effect there IS an updated disc (based on vehicle build date) that you can buy from Mazda, and it's part GP9A-66-DZ0C and will cost ya $342.00

Agreed. Just make sure that that part # is exactly the same disk that is supplied by the factory in your factory installed NAV.

I suspect however, that part is NOT an updated disk. I'm really curious if it's version 2.

All radio/nav components are nuts. $4000 for the nav radio and $3500 for the DVD player? Yeah. I think they just don't want people to lose them. Ever.

I can see an inflated component price of individual components at time-of-sale where the cost will be spread-across multiple monthly payments -- It's part of the game... but AFTER-the-fact... that's pretty steep.

Has anyone heard of any software updates for the OEM NAV systems sold in new mazdaz... (I have an 07speed).. The parts department and service rep at a local dealership out here in AZ.. said they have no idea on how to get updates for the system... just wondering if you guys have heard any new news.

Other then ebay and full price from dealers, I haven't seen anything.

If you need a "C" version of the map disks. I am selling one on ebay in the marketplace section.

Just called NAVTEQand there response was, "They NO longer distribute software updates for MAZDA corporation"

I just bought the "D" version on ebay. A few people were selling them for around $100. This is version 1200/2007 v1 if you go to the map configuration screen and look at versions.

Maps seems to be updated. Also some slightly modified way of displaying things on the map. POIs are aweful and don't seemed to be changed very much.
