1.6 Auto to Manual Trans advise needed

save your money and buy a manual miata. itll save you the stress and headaches from doing the swap.

but tell me hard could it be if i a have an 92 1.6 manual sitting in my garage wit a wrecked rear end
i jus need advise on how to do it

You will need to replace/add the following (in addition to any parts that I can't think of at the moment):

-Exchange Transmission
-Exchange Driveplate for flywheel/clutch assy.
-Exchange Driveshaft
-Exchange Brake Pedal
-Exchange Shifter
-Exchange ECU (to eliminate CEL)
-Add Clutch Pedal
-Add Clutch Master and Slave Cylinder
-Add Clutch hydraulic plumbing (hardline/flexline)
-Remove Auto Trans cooling lines from the radiator (?)

The 90-93 Miatas that were supplied with an auto tranny were equipped with a 100BHP engine (lower compression and different cam profiles) as compared to the 116BHP engine that was mated with the manual. The purpose for this was to increase low end torque to facilitate acceleration with the heavier torque converter.

The swap it quite simplified. If you have a parts car, go for it. Otherwise, Miata's are so cheap nowadays, it'd be wise to swap cars instead.

and i dont have to worry about the whole taking off the driveplate
cause ill jus toss in my whole engine and trans

than i dont understand why you posted this thread? your not swapping out the trannys...

The driveshaft is different between the auto and manual.
 
cuase so far all i got out of my 92 was some of the wiring harness
and trying to remove all the heater and ac s***
next is to take out the whole engine and trans
i jus wanna make sure im not messing up any thing
 
than i dont understand why you posted this thread? your not swapping out the trannys...
because he's still putting in a manual transmission in an automatic car. So really the only thing on the list Kevin posted he can ignore is swapping the flex plate for the flywheel/clutch
 
now ive heard there u gotta change the whole wiring harness
is this true
or am i gonna waste my time
i kno i gotta change the ecu for sure
 
The auto tranny is electronicly controlled. With a manual i don't think you need to change it since you're not adding anything...
 
If you have one from the parts car, why not change it? It's a few connectors, about 2-3 nuts/screws, and a grommet.
