wrx sti...trade worth it ?

well keep in mind thats with an extreamly good driver in perfect driving conditions. My 04 scooby is said to run 13.29 sec in a 1/4 mile STOCK. I haven't came close... closes i've got was 13.7 at 90F and 100% humidity. Now have I seen it done? Yes, on streetfire.net a stock STi ran 13.1 with perfect reaction time and nice weather.

Oh btw.. nice Avitar (boobs)

13.29/13.7 in an sti or a wrx?

I looked on the superstreet website and couldnt find much on the MR version so that test must not have gotten published online do you know what month it was put out?

Edmunds tested both the GSR and the STI i read it today, EVO wins in the styling department but STI now wins in the others. The article didnt give lap times but apparently its faster around the track and while not as easy to drive as fast as the evo due to the evos 4 million computers telling it what to do, it is very easy to drive and pretty fast it has 305hp and over 310 lb-ft.
I honestly like the STI more, I think the EVO looks better (finally never liked the old modles at all) but the STI is a hatch and its just useful and fast, kinda like the MS3.

In the outgoing modles if i remember correctly the STi might have beaten the EVO in the 1/4 by .1 every other aspect other than braking the EVO won, STi stopped like 4 feet sooner.

er, i could be wrong man.......... it could be a modified mag or an import tuner....... let me check for you really quick.........

also WTF @ 305 hp? is that dyno or crank? Subaru is claiming 330 @ crank for the STI, at least that's what I've read.

yeah I always remembered the STI as being faster through the 1/4 but there were some years that is was more closer to a half second difference

but other than that the EVO would win all the other tests, like the slalom and skid pad, etc. I thought the Evo won the braking tests too though.

Though it's already been said... I'll echo it nonetheless.

If you can afford the $38k pricetag (gotta get the BBS wheels!) then go for it. It's clearly a superior car...

Seriously doubt you'd miss your MS3. After all, you're upgrading to a similar type car. Buyer's remorse would certainly be a factor if you were thinking about getting an SUV or whatever.

On a sidenote... based on your 1st post, it seems that the main reason you're even contemplating this is due to the bad winter weather we're having. If it were me, I'm not sure I'd let THAT be the thing that makes me a) lose money selling my existing car and b) buy a relatively expensive car to replace it. With the right tires, FWD is more than capable during the winter months. Changing from your stock summers to snows won't change either since the Sti comes with summer tires. (even a million wheel drive car with summer tires will suck during the winter)

Anywayz... since you seem happy enough with your MS3 during the rst of the year... assuming you can live with a FWD car in the wintertime (with the proper tires) I say keep the MS3 and (since you can afford an Sti) put 5-10k into it... Though it won't be awd, with those mods it'll definitely be faster... and obviously more exclusive.

Check out www.subaru.com in there they have specs and everything else for the new STI. Its 305 sadly, though thats the Japanese spec 2.0L engine the hp gain in our 2.5 wont exist, though we do get more torque.

Cool i guess i over looked that article. i would love to see some numbers of the MR compared to the GSR though.

As for the EVO vs STi
Edmunds has a video of them testing the two of them which i cant find right now ill post it if i do, but Car and Driver have the old numbers from the 05 test of the VIII MR and the STi
STi was .2 faster at 2mph slower posting a 13.4 at 102 to the evo MRs 13.6 at 104mph. The MR comes with imporved suspension a regular GSR stops a little later than the STi though the MR stops dead on with it.
Remember though this is the VIII
The EVO IX was the faster of the two in the 1/4 mile and in the slolum(SP)
JUST FOUND THAT VID

here ya go

man that's so sad....... before they came out with the STI, when they were writing articles talking about it, etc etc Subaru or someone was estimating 330 hp....... 305? crap..... i'd rather spend the money on an older 04/05 model.

Yeah the Evo 9 they compared to the Evo X in the super street test..... they said it was more fun to drive the Evo 9, but the Evo X was easier to drive faster than the 9...... oh well.

I would like to read a test regarding the Evo X in 5 speed manual...... to see how it measures up to the evo 9.

Subaru changed the way they measured HP. All the models took a 10HP hit.

The STi is going to be awesome, but its not really in the same class as the MS3...the STi will be in the 40k range fully loaded, 35k base. Thats a far cry from the 20k I spend on my ms3..

35K my butt.Howabout 35K+6.5%(Dade county FL tax) 500usd dealership Fee,TAG&reg 200usd.Voila!!! 38K base price out the door with NAV fully loaded its like 40k plus tax and fees 44k out the door.

My MS3 GT with NAV was 28000K out the door The Subaru with Nav is 44K out the door.

I can`t do much about the 4x4 but for 1000usd i can get 330hp 25hp more than the STI.
2500-2750 usd gets me 4 wheel Big brake Brembo kits(protest)(second)(inout)
Plus the Mazda looks better in and out.1600usd gets you 18"rims and tires 235 from 5zigen.

2008 STI 0-60 4.8sec 13.3 1/4 mile:-)
MS3 0-60 5.4 14.0

wth, are they no longer using a dyno? what exactly did they change?

what? It's built off the Legacy platform. It gained size lol

I checked online and the differences are miniscule........ and keep in mind the 2008 also weighs more now...... I am wondering WHY that is though. the 2008 is shorter than the previous model, but same length as the '05..... it's also the widest one with the highest ride height and longest wheelbase.

I'd be interested in seeing a cool comparo between the 2004/2005, 2006/2007, and 2008 models...... that'd be nice.

2005 Subaru STI:
Curb Weight: 3,263
Overall Length: 173.8"
Width: 68.5"
Wheelbase: 100"
Overall Height: 56.3"
Ground Clearance: 5.7"

2006 Subaru STI:
Curb Weight: 3,351 lbs
Overall Length: 175.8"
Width: 68.5"
Wheelbase: 99.4"
Overall Height: 56.3"
Ground Clearance: 5.7"

2008 Subaru STI:
Curb Weight: 3,395 lbs
Overall Length: 173.8"
Width: 70.7"
Wheelbase: 103.3"
Overall Height: 58.1"
Ground Clearance: 6.1"

(flame2) Ever since the sti was revealed couple months ago, i had thoughts before, if i should wait to get the ms3. i always liked the hatchback platform and i realized that sti will be on the same form +330hp+awd....instead, i bought the speed3 since it looks so hot !!! but...winter time hits my area now and it kinda piss me off driving on fwd....Don't get me wrong i absolutely love the car....but my wife is giving me a green light to get the sti when it comes out (shrug)!!... i'm still debating whether to get it or not..the payments i can afford....but the attachement i had with the ms3 is....will be missed..so much.(shocked)what u guys think......

just look at that thing !!!

If noone has said this yet, please alow me: What are you, nuts? You jump on the STI. That is one bad muthu. It's a no brainer. Faster, better handeling, better traction, sweet looking... How the hell could you go wrong?

Depends on how much you want to spend for that extra performance. Quality-wise and arguably looks-wise the two cars are pretty much even, so it is really all about performance. To me the MS3 is such a performance bargain, the difference in how much more fun you would have in the STI vs how much more you have to pay per month is just not worth it. I'd rather put that money towards vacations, mortgage, toys, etc.

true......

what Peter said....... the price differences between the 2 cars..... you could MODIFY the nuts off the MS3 up to the total price of the STI and the STI would not touch it after that.

on top the extra money is ALMOST like buying 2 cars..... you could almost get a 2nd STI or you could buy yourself a nice "project" car like an rx-7 or a mazda miata to turn into a track car...... so you'd have 2 fun cars, vs. one fun car...... you just have to explore your options

the only differences are the AWD

and i think a good set of proper snow tires will be just fine in the winter

well also if you had the money for the STI/EVO wouldnt you get it over the MS3? MS3 is a great bargain but if i could afford a STI or EVO i would be all over them.

Having had sit in both, I think the interior of the Sti is a notch or two above the MS3. We're not talking Audi or BMW here but it's definitely a HUGE improvement over the previous generations. That's not to say the MS3 is crap... comparatively speaking, for the money I'm not sure you can get a better overall value... but the Sti is clearly the better overall car. ... but it's not worth the extra $10+k imo Even if you CAN afford it (and really, we ALL can afford it... it's just a matter of how much debt we want to be in) I'd probably stick with the MS3. Take that $10k and invest it in some moderate mutual funds. Over the course of your 5 year loan that $10k will nearly double... while the Sti will be ready for the classifieds...

Exactly like chico said..... it's all just a matter of the person's preference, that's why I told him to test drive the 2008.

I mean I got my ms6 for 20k out the door. now 40k? that's 20k for my car... and that other 20k ? i can do a numerous amount of things to my car... or i can get a 2nd car, or i could invest the money in some things i know of, double it in 2 years, and buy something i might want even more.... like a c6 z06 ;)
