TURBO KIT COMING ON TEH 14TH!

okay some know about this, but here is my plan for the p5 and why i got this plan

It started when the msp came out, i wanted it bad and i was 15 so i had my license jitters. It turns out that when i got my license it was just a little too expensive that what my parents were going to pay(yes the bought my car, but when i turned 18 the payments got switched over to me ;)) so i got my lovely p5. Now i have a good job, still live at home, and have extra cash. However getting a new car would be stupid cause i almost paid off the p5 and insurance purposes etc. So i am gonna have my dream of having a msp, only its gonna be a hatchback! here is a list of what i plan to do/install starting late winter. any comments/ suggestions please please please feel free to chime in!

Engine:
msp turbo kit (ORDERED AND COMING MONDAY THE 14TH!)
custom FMIC
single runner intake mani
afc

Exhaust:
custom piping
hi flow cat
carbon muffler
(possilby keeping current corksport header back exhaust)

Body:
3.5 msp bumper/lip(both are here, awaiting a good painting)
eyelids(here and also awaiting painting)
black painted rear valance
black painted headlights
msp rims

Suspension:
racing beat springs(awaiting installing)
painted calibers

Accesories:
msp mats
msp shifter(Awaiting install this weekend)
ms pedals
msp tach(i believe its the tach that has "mazdaspeed" etched into it)
ms license plate frame
ms badges

again any suggestions/comments please feel free to help me spend my money!

i think the 03.5 bumper will be pretty pointless, the p5 has the same body style i believe, unless, your going for the non fog light look?

haha i broke mine! rearended somebody, so im gonna get a mp3, 3 or 3.5 msp bumper they are all the same part num i beleive so i just need one kind and the lip to go with

The MSP/MP3 bumper doesn't have the sidemarker lights on the bumper like the P5 does, thats why a few people with P5's have gotten the MSP bumper.

I would also suggest the sedan headlights, I think they look good with the MSP front end.

i dont think so, maybe with the msp rims, it will raise my car a little due to the large size, so maybe just some racing beat or msp springs but no way am i paying for a full set of coilovers! that 1,000 g's could be better spent of forged internals if i wanted to...

Just a couple notes:

1) You definitely want to upgrade the suspension - even if it is just springs and struts! Find a set of Teins or Eibachs for cheap and get the Tokico HPs - you won't be sorry. Besides, then you'll have the perfect stance. I hate to say it but these cars don't really look good until they're dropped some - especially with the MSP wheels!

2) To get the MSP Tach your going to want to switch out the entire gauge cluster. The MSP cluster has silver gauge faces whereas the P5's are off-white. Also, I'd go with the '03.5 gauges because they have the silver needle center. If you're lucky you can find a set for sale here occasionally - that's what I did.

3) Personally I would not get the MSP shifter. Sure it's shorter but the throws are not. Plus it uses the same crappy rubber bushing the stock P5 shifter uses. I have the TWM and all it's accessories and personally it's great.

That's all I can think of. Definitely look around - they're are quite a few of us that have done exactly what your plan on doing. I'd be happy to help where I can.

thanks for the input guys!, yeah idk, cause for some reason my car is verrry low as is, it scrapes on the ground more than i would like it to, i swear somthings up with my suspension but it all looks stock, but if i get the bigger rims then getting eibach pro kit might work cause i dont wanna lower my car more than an inch. but if i get the new rims and the pro kit springs will i have to worry about my camber? cause thats just something i really dont wanna worry about.

p.s going to dealer tomorrow to get front bumber and possibly 3.5 lip, if not im getting that next week;)

good luck! Just don't be a normal teenager and wrap it around a tree lol

nice....i love my baby too much to do that do her, plus i only got one more year of being a teenager. What could possibly go wrong in one year! Then after a year has passed, poof! no more teen years and everything in my world will be sugar coated, perfect, and i will never make a mistake again...(crazy)muahaha

What'cha got?

obx header, corksport header back exhaust with "verocious" motorsports hi-flow cat welded into the midpipe, injen cold air intake.

okay so i went to the mazda dealer today and realized i need to go when the younger guys are working. I went to order my new front end, bumper/lip, and the guy working in parts looked like he just retired from being a lumberjack honestly! i told him i needed the 3.5 msp front lip, or course first of all hes like "2003 you mean?" then he trys to order me 2003 protege front air dam hes like "350" and shoes me a pic, of course not it. He couldnt find it and of course i got pissed, so i need to get the part number and bring it in to those thick headed infidels! so i went outside and on my back to my car i spied something...2- 2008 mazaspeed 3's, one silver for 24,445 and one black for 25,600ish. I stook there oogling them for a while then decieded i want suspension upgrades...not sure how the ms3 inspired me to that but now i want to. so when i got back to mazda i want to have the part number for some else.

does anyone know the part number for the 3.5 msp gauge cluster, also this will not change my odo right, the ecu holds all that info?

You can't really throw all that power at the car and not expect to upgrade the suspension as well. Sure it'll get you going nice and fast, but what happens if you have to change lanes or turn for some reason while you're going that fast???? Not to mention taking off from a start and having the rear suspension squat way down and offload the front tires...... The 2 go hand in hand.

hmmm...wise you are in the ways of symbiotic relationships. but seriously yeah i comp forgot about that aspect, now all i have to do is reaserch on springs/struts i only wanna spend like 500 bucks maybe a lil more, and i want the smallest drop possible cause i think cars that are way lowered look completly rediculous and as u quoted me, i already scrape my bumper at least once or twice every few months and that pisses me off to no end!

The wider msp rims will greatly enhance cornering. If you do this, I'd recommend getting 215/40 or 215/45 rims. 205 for me was a little too narrow and I was always worried about curbing the rims. They'll also be heavier. While the turbo will easily help with this, why not just keep stock rims for now and enjoy the extra acceleration? You'll also end up saving gas mileage and get better braking, too. The larger rims will raise the car slightly. It'll also increase the gap between your wheels and the fender. I was told it looked like a truck. Personally, I didn't bother to mess with the suspension, since I preferred the higher ride height since I didn't scrape my bumper as often (like you mentioned).

btw, if you do get the heavier wheels, think about upgrading the brakes. It's more difficult to slow/stop the car. Hell think about brakes anyways if you're planning on doing a lot of "OMG! 1/4 mile pulls" down city streets.

I'm surprised no one's suggested a wideband and boost gauge. These'll help ensure that the car's running properly. A turbo timer would be a good investment, too. You can't just zoom into a parking lot and turn off the car right away. It'll stop the flow of oil to the turbo and can wreck it. Also, consider getting a cold air intake. A CAI can easily help bring in cooler air and help fight heatsoak.

Also, be careful with piecing together a turbo kit. While it might all work in your mind, you could end up wasting a bunch of money for parts that in the end don't fit right. You could have boost/exhaust leaks, rattling, or worse. Maybe you should think about getting a hiboost (last I checked, it was the only turbo kit still available NEW other than the msp).

Lastly, be prepared to spend 50% - 100% more than you initially plan. Problems will arise, and those can be costly, especially when you consider the cost of labor. Zoom-Zoom-BOOM. The engine can go pretty easily, too, so be sure you don't go boost-happy.

Do you have a spare car you can use if the p5's in the garage? Something to think about; a turbo install can take a whole weekend or longer depending on who's doing it. You must be patient with the car, and expect your car's reliability to decrease.

I own an auto p5, and have not turboed the car. So I don't claim to know everything about turboing the car. In fact, there's some things that I may be flat wrong on. However, I have also dreamed the dream of boost, and have therefore paid close attention to what people have said/dealt with on this board. Perhaps my final piece of advice to you: DO NOT EXPECT TO DO THIS FOR CHEAP! If money is/will be an issue, I'd suggest focusing on the turbo kit ONLY first. Work on making it look nice later.

Good luck with everything.

Just be glad you're not driving some of the cars I used to drive. Suspension for our cars is cheap comparatively speaking. $467 for kyb struts and pro-kit springs shipped is a great price.

thanks again, sorry to not yinclude whats in the kit, but it comes with everything i need except oil lines.

it has a boost guage, turbo timer, wideband, hks ssq bov, cai, etc, and i already have the msp rims in the garage due to my stockers being bent! friggin road work that wast labeled.

as for labor im doing everything except install turbo kit, done via Protege garage, thats right im coming to you ken!
i might even paint the msp bumper lip myself, my co-worker has a painting room setup in his 6 car garage and he paints all his own cars, so im gonna try it myself, worse comes to worse i can strip off the paint and try again? he has lots o' exp doing this.
