loud noise coming from front suspension/tire?

Recently I've been experiencing a loud clunk-like noise when accelerating while turning. It seems to come from the front tires or suspension. I am not well-versed in automotive mechanics, so I have no clue. Anyone have seen this problem? My guess would be something to do with OEM tires and cold weather, though I'm not sure, could be suspension/anti-roll bars, something to do with torque-steer, etc.

Ahh. Good question. Lots of school of thought on accelerating a FWD car while turning at the same time, which is assumed from your post.

First off- When you say accelerating, do you mean WOT (wide open throttle) or 3/4 mashing down the gas or 2000 RPMs Sunday Driver?

Assumming you are at WOT, then you'll have to understand the way a FWD car is designed at what a CV Joint does. Luckily for us our cars have a equal length half axles, which is a better design than a vehicle with one longer than another. Since that's the case, we have to look closer to the design of the LSD (limited slip differential). Never opened mine up, someone else probably has, who could speak more effectively on this issue. But simply put, turning and getting the CV Joint and LSD to work together under hard acceleration is going to eventually cause sound, especially if your steering is locked to the right or left.

I could be totally off base. Other possible reasons: you have aftermarket rims that don't properly fit and are rubbing. It could also be as simple as wheel hop under hard acceleration. (With DSC on and hard acceleration in 1st or 2nd gear, if you see the yellow light with skid marks light up on your dash, then you've experienced wheel hop. Believe it or not the car is designed to do that. And it is annoying.)

Our cars are meant to wheel hop...? Really?
It happened to me a while back when I shifted into second and the DSC (the one with the squiggly lines) lit up and I heard a thump... Was that wheel hop...?

Don't take this the wrong, but its hard to know if people are being sarcastic or not on this forum. I'm highly sarcastic due to my cynic and critical nature, so I'm already going to automatically assume you know what wheel hop is, or maybe I'm totally lost and calling what I think is wheel, really isn't...(bang)

Anyway- For me its really hard not do induce wheel hop, since I always drive with DSC on and I like to mash through 1st and 2nd every now and then.(drive)

To answer your question- Yes, I believe the DSC is attempting to counter act the loss of grip when you accellerate hard, hence the thunking feeling. Also, I noticed after installing a SRI that wheelhopping is so much easier to do. I suppose you can get wheelhop with DSC off, but then I would just call that a burnout...(breakn)

For clarification, my car is '08 completely stock. And yes, I would say it happens with wide open throttle. Could be wheel hop perhaps? I've been driving an AWD vehicle before for the last 6 years or so.
