The MS6 Build-a-Beast is coming very soon...(Pics)

after it wouldnt start i left. They said they were going to pull the valve cover and check the cam timing and anything else it could be. Ill check back tommorow.

cam timing will easily throw off compression. which cylinders were registering low or no compression? what were the numbers on the other two cylinders? exact numbers on all four?

hope its good news tomorrow ! can't wait to hear what kinda numbers you get with that pump and all tough mods .

If your looking at the motor from the front of the car, it is the two right side cylinders. To adjust cam timing does the motor have to come out fully again? not exactly sure of the #'s but the left two cylinders where fine, the right two didnt even move the guage.

may want to check the head and head gasket as well seeing as where the numbers you told me are coming from. head could be warped from the last engine, did they examine this?

it looks like something on the cams was tightened to much so the cams are coming out and going back to the machine shop. Only the valve cover has to come off so im glad everything doesnt have to come apart. Nothing catostophic so far!!

Absolutely.

From our archives...
Drivability is not the best. Vehicle runs good most of the time, but has some hesitation. Keeps setting a code P0340. Customer states that this all started after the oil was changed and an oil leak developed and it was run very low for a few miles.

Tests/Procedures:
1. Check the camshaft timing to determine if the timing chain may have jumped. With the valve cover off, place a flat bar across the back of the head and into the slots on the camshafts. With the bar in place, verify that the crankshaft position sensor is aligned with the tooth on the front pulley and that the line up bolt can be installed through the front pulley and into the timing cover. If things dont line up, the timing chain has jumped.

Potential Causes:
Jumped timing chain

** Confirmed Fix **
The timing chain had jumped

Tech Tips:
In this case the flat bar couldnt even line up with the slots in the camshafts.

This was one case out of MANY.

so the cams were overtightened or torqued down wrong?

yea a rocker or shim or something...i dunno much about the head/cam components. May be timing but i dont think so. the machine shop went off the mazda specs as far as the installation so i dont know how they messed up.

Alot of times the shims will seat on a new motor, or the cams will settle in their journals and throw off the shims...

You obviously had a valve open at TDC...

This happens all the time on bikes when the shims are thrown out of spec...

I shimmed the valves on my old bike once....bucket/over shims.....I vowed to never do that again(coffee)
