Vibrant exhaust dyno

heres my dyno. Hopefully it works.

The first was done in May with just MS CAI(blue). Yesterday... with Vibrant downpipe back and MS CAI(red). The midrange gains are dynamite.... but the A/F starts owning me after 4000. I need engine management.

I want to bump this in order to get some feedback.

I actually lost significant power after 5300 rpms. Plus my A/F is totally whacked. Doesnt modding exhaust LEAN the A/F?

I didnt want to state my concerns initially because I wanted to see if y'all noticed this.... but I need somebody to comment. This doesnt make a whole lot of sense to me. Somebody tell me this is normal please.

The PDF works fine by the way...

Yeah, everything crosses at 5300... Seems odd (but I'm a total newbie with car modifications).

Nice numbers.

Where are you located in NC? I see that the dyno was done at Mark's. If you stay in/around GSO, it would be nice to know another MS3 around here.

for some reason i cant see the graph????, but maybe you should try to just hack out the bottom of the oem airbox and put that back on and re-dyno the car to see if your AFR's get normal again. I bet you wont lose any power and the car wont lean out anymore either.

Im in Greensboro, Brown Summit to be exact. Do you get by Turbo Tune often? My business is right down the street, and he hasnt had any other MS3s dyno up there yet. Id almost pay for the comparison:)

Where are you, BTW... Lets meet up sometime.

I dont know why you cant see it, but I wish it would lean out. It runs rich as hell with the MS CAI.... I cant imagine what it would look like with it off.

My buddy who tunes and works on Hondas thinks the dyno must be whacked. I wish more guys would weigh in.

Wow I thought the numbers would be higher. I have the same set up and have an appoitment next Tuesday to get mine on the dyno. As soon as I get it done I will post the results. Do you mind if I tag into your thread so there is a comparison to both?

Please, please do. My car feels like a rocket, but these numbers and results are so troubling....

1. Somewhat weak numbers.... but lower peak numbers could just be the dyno, I guess.
2. Just a terrible, weird A/F, that makes no sense considering what baseline showed.
3. A terrible dropoff in power starting at 5300 rpms.

Ive thought maybe my turbo had issues because of smoking.... but since I got my oil changed to the right stuff.... Ive had no smoking for over a week. And my car stalls and sputters like crazy whens its cold... even after I had the recall. Maybe the reflash at the dealer monkeyed with it. This is just nuts.

My car is possessed.

No prob. I have had no issues with mine. No smoke, stalling, sputtering and the car pulls like a mother and the throttle response is awesome.

your overexaggerating the "drop off" of power

you lost like 5 hp just a tad earlier than before...but look at how much longer you gained 20?

your pulling MUCH harder throughout the ENTIRE power band (from 3k up)...but only lost a tad top end

thats normal to loose some top end with mods that give you low end torque

nice numbers btw =)

and yea your air/fuel leaned out a little bit but tahts understandable

does the new exhaust have a high-flow cat or a deleted cat?
the backpressure caused by the catalytic converter can change how rich your engine will run Im assuming

Your assessment is very reassuring. To know it is normal to see dropoff on topend is what I wanted to hear. And I agree the midrange gains are great. That is what my butt is feeling. Ive stated the car feels great... so Im not disappointed. Gains of 20 hp and 30 trq through the midrange.... trust me, Im not complaining.

The 2nd cat is replaced with a highflow in the Vibrant setup. BTW..The A/F did not lean out though. It got rich as hell. Does the ECU cause this because of reduced backpressure? I thought it would lean it out more.

On a side note... I occasionally get some backfire under WOT, at higher RPMS. This means fuel is getting through the cats and corroborates the dynos rich A/F after about 4000 rpms.... right?

oh your right, sorry, read the dyno chart wrong haha

but yea...I would bet money that the ECU is readjusting that to compensate for the lack of backpressure

and man that things gotta pull good now throughout the powerband!

oohh i can see the graph now, hmm yeah it is rich with the new intake, just crank the boost up a couple psi and that should fix it.

lol. The intake was my baseline. Then adding exhaust made it rich. My s*** is so unclear...lol

So one vote for the ECU making this rich.... Thats what one of the guys at the shop said, but I didnt buy it. Ive searched the forums dynos and I cant find anything with this kind of A/F with intake/exhaust. I/We can rationalize it all we want but it would be nice to see this happen somewhere else.

My car runs richer now(w/ intake, exhaust) than everybodys stock runs. And THAT was RICH.

Scooter.... I cant wait to see what you get on Tuesday.

My car does pull midrange though. If this is accurate, just imagine how this thing will respond to tuning.

I agree with nig3

turn up the boost a little bit

take advantage of it being rich =)

its basically a free way to gain some good horsepower, while making your car have a much cleaner a/f ratio

thats funny. adding the vibrant to nutari's car really leaned his out. though he did have the XEDE tuned to already withdraw fuel in boost. interesting to see how it reacts to different setups.
