Protege5 swap with Mazdaspeed3?

Hey Everyone!

Recently Turbo XS near my house produced a Mazdaspeed3 with 305whp on the stock turbo.

Currently I am running a fully built motor (2.0L P5) with complete turbo (16psi), fmic, straight pipes, etc. and I am making 297whp on the Dyno. The idea came up that I may be able to switch out the 2.0L block and replace it with the speed3's 2.3L and gain about 50whp. I believe that both engines are MZR and are sold as DHE-420 and DHE-423 from ford power products.

I also know that when engine codes are alike you can usually "frankenstein" them together.

Basically, Would it be possible to do the swap and keep the headers and everything else that I already have set up?

I may be totally off base here but thanks for the help!

2 ENTIERELY different blocks...not even close to the same. You need to look at some pictures of what the mz3 engine bay looks like, because if you had you would have know right away, if only because the headers on the mz3 or next the firewall, not in front next to the radiator.

doesn't mean it can't be done (no idea if the motor mounts fit but I sincerely doubt it), but that would probably not be worth your while...

check it out

Best search... this question has been asked a zillion times before.

The short answer is: anything is possible.

The long answer is: it's possible if you find an aftermarket ECU that can handle fueling duties for the direct injection system or find some way to convert it back to manifold injection like the regular Mazda3 2.3... though wiring will be a b****, since the two cars use totally different wiring architecture. There's only one successful swap for a Mazdaspeed3 engine I know of, and that was into a Mazda5, and required much custom rewiring of the body systems (which were at least partially compatible with the Mazda3... there is no reverse compatibility between the 3 and Proty).

it's probably not impossible, but the cost will most likely far outweigh any benefits from swapping up.

But be the first to do it, and your godlike swapping skills will be admired by all the Mazda faithful. :D
