I miss my '97 Miata. I'll be looking for a new daily driver in about a year, and I may be able to swing another Miata, depending in part on the answer to this question:

Can you fit a child seat (toddler size) in the trunk of your NB or NC Miata?

Obviously, not while occupied! I'd like to have a Miata as a daily driver again, but if I drop my kid off at daycare and head to work, I'd like to be able to put his car seat in the trunk and haul a co-worker to lunch, carpool, etc. Has anybody tried this? What kind of car seat?

I should have the opportunity to try this out myself around New Years, as My dad has an '01 and my father-in-law has an '07, but I thought I'd fast-forward and just ask around.

Anyone know?

Also, did the put those LATCH anchor points in the passenger seats? That would be really handy.

*smartass answer withheld until question is answered* Give Lucas a big hug for me.

I've learned so far that the NC's do have the Latch points.

It also occurred to me that I may have a better chance of getting the (empty) car seat in the (deeper) trunk of an NA. I'd have to get a 1.6, though, or have someone install an airbag killswitch in a '94-'97

nice...

hmm...my dog hates the vacuum too...not to draw any comparisons between your child and my dog of course.

Actually, my (former) cat hated the vacuum cleaner too, and I had a theory as to why:
He spent all of his time shedding his fur on the carpet and couches, and when I vacuumed, I was undoing all of his hard work. He didn't hate the noise of the vacuum, he resented the effects of it on his life's work.

Not to draw a comparision between my child and my cat, but....

When I vacuum now, it's mostly to get up all the crumbs from the kid's snacks and the other messes he manages to make, so there may be a parallel... ;)

As for a Miata as my next daily driver, I'm finding Dru much easier to convince of this plan than of my FC RX-7 plan. She thinks the FC, as an older car, would not be as safe. Since I can't find any crash-test data on the web for the FC, I can't prove her wrong!

I'm torn. I loved my Miata, and I'd love to have another one. I really miss driving a convertible (in the winter, in D.C., at 40*, with all the normal people staring at me) but I also really liked my rotary, and would love to have another one of those, too.

If I go NA Miata, I could go 1.6 and quite inexpensively turbo it. That's very appealing.

It's also very oxymoronic.... And I know parts are cheap / readily available...that's not where I was going with it...
not really. You can do a greddy kit, plus a few extra parts and get 150hp. for under $2k.

Which Oxymoron, Maff?

Cheap - Turbo
Turbo - Miata
Turbo - daily/kid hauler
turbo - car my wife thinks is safer than the other one?

...and yeah, Fadi, I was pretty much thinking Greddy kit, non-intercooled, "standard" boost, for the car as a daily.

Did I not just say I realize that parts are cheap? I'm pretty sure I did (wedge)

:p

Whenever I think turbo, I think expensive upkeep. Gotta be more diligent with your maintenance, stuff tends to break easier, etc etc.

THAT's what I meant by expensive.

What's really bad is i look at that picture and notice the only way it can happen at those angles is if the Miada had just started to turn right.

I more liked to daydream of it spinning out... (spin)

tell her theres no crash test data cos they never crash - and what can be safer than THAT! (rlaugh)

much to learn the young padawan has to do.

4k mile oil changes, and switch to premium gas is all i did to change my routine. that's about it, as long as the car is in good shape. If it's not in good shape, the added power will aggrivate it, but if parts are bad, they're bad.
