Brake (!) Light Coming on During Hard Braking

So no light at all on the drive to work this morning. I probably went more easy on the brakes than usual though. Only had to flip off one person!

brake pads are really easy to do, the rears require some work though since they are adjustable, but none of them are really hard.

DaleNixon, I have been having the exact same problem. Dash e-brake light coming on during heavy braking. Also comes on when I first start up the car... and even though the e-brake is released, it stays on for about 30-45 seconds before going out. Going to check the fluid levels today. Hopefully that's all it is.

Its your fluid level...99% of the time it is..but its from Pad wear as stated already.

im getting this grinding in the pedal more often now, even when i barely touch the brakes...only happens for a few seconds then goes away....after searching every thread on here i cannot find one post with similar problems....looks like im heading to the dealership (hump)

While my brake fluid was not below the Min level indicator, topping it off has solved the issue of my dash brake indicator coming on at startup and during hard braking. Much cheaper than getting new pads and/or rotors! Whew!!

My pads are getting down to about 1/4" or less (yes, going all the way to metal for research-have new stack of parts in garage & rotors won't be turnable after pads are done anyway) I'm gonna squeeze every mile outta the brembo/hawk setup to see just how far they will go before hitting metal. I have no brake light issues like this & no noises yet & still work just as good as ever which is really good. Going on 75k on this setup.

Couple of weeks later and no brake light after topping off the fluid. I have a friend who knows how to replace pads as if changing socks so I'll probably hook that up when the light starts coming back on. Thanks again for all the advice.
