meh...this kind of stuff has been happening for many years. If you think it will ever change you are sadly mistaken.
Wow that's a Great way to look at life....

So do I...as long as all of the groups involved get some additional punishments appropriate to their offenses...community service isn't enough for all of them.
I think all the students involved; the guys who hung the noose, the kid who got beat (for saying racial slurs), the black kids, they all need to be put on probation and given community service that they must perform together, so that they can learn about each other.
They don't have to like eachother, but they need to RESPECT EACH OTHER AND LEARN TO LIVE TOGETHER.
I saw it this morning on the news. They hung nooses in a tree that was supposedly a white only area that a few black people decided to stand under. First issue, they shouldn't have had a white people only tree int he first place. Second, the kids that hung the nooses should be punished to the full extent of the law.
Next some white kid was jumped and beaten by a group of black kids that had previous criminal records. Free speech allows him to hate, nothing you can do about that. They jumped him and jumped up and down on him. In that instance it would be attempted murder as people have died from being kicked and jumped on. Being that they had previous criminal records locks in the ability to try them as adults. Color set aside, I would expect anyone that does this to be punished.
I just hope that the KKK doesn't ralley.
If the store owener was asking them to leave for some reason, I have no idea the circuimstance, and they didn't then this is a correct course. I can see 3 guys starting s*** and scare the hell out of store owner, then they jump him to get teh gun when he tries to scare them off. Without seeing the police reports and those filed by the individuals, this could have been the order of events.I agree with the first part of what you was saying but with this situation overall ALOT of things needs to be address.
First off, the white man with a shotgun who threaten 3 black kids in the store didn't get charged but once the teens were able to get the firearm away from the man, the kids are charged with theft of a firearm. Thats an issue.
News is reporting a suspension, nothing about an expulsion. Considering if this went to court, the school could actualy get in trouble as this can be seen as a sign of free speech, I think the suspension could be, unfortunitly, the schools only course. There is of coarse no law against hanging a noose and as it is not violent or distructive or clearly aimed at one person, then there is no law it violates. Nothing leagal could be done here. The school official who reversed the decision to have the students expelled for hanging the nooses on the tree. Another Problem.
This appears to be the info I am looking for. What is your source? The white students who beat up the black student at a party, yet no charges were filed on them nor none of them went to jail for assault. A serious issue which should have been address. Now the situation is reversed. A white student who was racially taunting the black student who was beaten up a few days ago at the party gets jumped by a group of black students. All of the black students are charged with attempted 2nd degree murder and one of them gets 22 years in prison.
If what you said above is accurate, then I can see the problem as well. However i can see an order of events where no one from this party would actualy talk to the cops so they could not take action against the white guys in that fight. Again I would like to see some actual details before coming to a conclusion on this.Am I the only person who see something seriously wrong with this picture?!! If justice is supposely blind why does it feel lopsided with all the events that took place.
People need to be looked at on the content of their character, not the color of their skin, or their ethnicity. There lie the issue.
You guys are ignoring the Bigger picture here. What happened to loving each other no matter what color we are. The nooses shouldn't have been on the tree in the first place.
I think the outrage is mostly because these kids were charged with attempted murder instead of a simple assault. Whereas the white kids who hung nooses from the tree were given what can't even be considered a slap on the wrist. I can see why some would be upset. The complaints are not about why these kids are being punished. I think everyone agrees that they should be punished. But letting white kids go free for hate crimes while charging 16-year old black kids for attempted murder as adults for simply punching a white kid? That's screwed up.
No matter how hard I try, I can never forget that the United states of America was built on land stolen from one side of my family, with slave labor from the other side. I do my best to integrate. I have an education and a career. I pay my taxes and try to stay out of trouble, but my best efforts do little to free me from being targeted by ingnorant people, crooked cops, and racial profiling.
There have been great strides made since the days of Martin Luther King, but the Jena 6 case shows that racial issues are still around. I do think they boys need to be punished, because they did assult the white guy, but how ******* stupid is the district attorney for saying that tennis shoes are considered a deadly weapon? his actions are showing that he has an agenda.

I will not put words in your mouth but I have to know:
Is hanging a noose in a tree to insult a group of people a worse offense, and equal offence, or a lesser offense in your opinon then 6 people physicly assulting a single person until that person stops moving?
well quite frankly that's the kinda attitude taken by many and a big factor in it not changing.
Killer, you know I respect you, but that attitude is exactly the problem. If people thought that way, slavery would be as big an issue now as it was back then. But thanks to the courage of people of all races, we have been able to make huge strides and we can't forget that or take it for granted.
I was just being my usual realist self. As you know I am a Liberal and wish this kind of thing could be eradicated....but as long as there are different races, there will always be 2 sets of rules. It will always be SOME part of life. Sorry, its just the way I feel. Maybe I am jaded because I am from a different generation than you..(over 40 yo)
What's more important? Punishment, or correcting the behavior, forgiveness, and moving on?
Correction has to start on the inside, and work its way out. They also have to be made to understand that actions have consequences.
Lemme know when you B-day is coming up, I'll fedex a walker and some prune juice![]()
