I just got a 2008 Mazda3 5spd manual! This is really my first car and first manual car, I just learned to drive this thing a few days ago and its going pretty well! I'm really new to the mazda scene and hoping to make some money so i can atleast put some basic mods(exhaust, intake, w/e) on it. Um its pretty early in the morning and I dunno what else to say :P But im hoping to meet you all! :)

Thanks guys, i live in Newton

oh btw, i've been browsing around this forum for some time even before i got my mazda and altspace you take some nice pictures :D

welcome aboard! we are having a meet this sunday @ F1 boston...if you can make it...check it out under this section. (thumb)

Welcome! Great way to pick up driving stick! I did the same thing when I bought my Protege5 back in 2003. Before picking it up I had maybe 1 hr behind the wheel of a stick shift and that's it.

Lucky. My first learning of stick was in a 85 Hyundai Excel. A sloppy 5-speed with a whooping 68HP 1.5L carbed engine. I can't imagine what the WHP was or the torque. $5K for a brand new one when my parents bought it in 85.

Before I drove my P5 here is the experience I had:
1) Backing a jeep out of my driveway.
* My driveway is a hill so I never actually got it in gear
2) Driving in a parking lot in a 1st gen Ford Probe
* I only did 2 starts and once I was in 2nd I kind of figured things out
3) Actually driving a 93 Audi A4
* I never had to use reverse but I got to practice starting

I was most afraid of driving in reverse but that was before I learned the whole "feather" technique as outlined in my HOW-TO.

This was the sedan version. We had the 3door. My first hatchback! Was the same color gray though.

"...it even has a stereo sound system!" haha

Oh, hey! Welcome to the site! I just learned stick on my friends 04' Mustang GT. I hate bragging, but thankfully it came natural for me. I told my friend I knew how to drive stick and he thought I did, so he let me drive his car. He couldn't tell I had never driven manual until I told him after 15 minutes of driving. hahaha :D

haha, the only experience i had before actually learning how to drive this one was:
1. Driving my cousin's jetta in a parking lot and her bf's audi also in the parking lot.. I never really understood how/when to let go of clutch and add gas until now. :P

Thanks guys!

Don't forget "full carpeting". The stereo was an optional cassette deck in mine with 4 cheap tiny door speakers. Needless to say that did not last long. Tough to get down with Eazy-E and no bass.
