Alberta Import

I'll be moving to Vancouver from Edmonton in August, and I'll be bringing my yellow '02 MP5 with me. I've got a few questions for the Vancouver members...

1 - Anybody know how long I can leave my Alberta plate on before I have to register/insure with ICBC?
2 - We don't need a front plate in Alberta, please tell me there is a nice way to install the front plate which I will eventually have to get?
3 - Other than a Ractive cold air intake and a MagnaFlow exhaust, the engine is stock, this shouldn't affect the aircare process should it?
4 - I'm thinking about getting an alarm/immobilizer, any thoughts on this?

Thanks in advance,

_matt

1. not sure (check icbc's site)
2. take a look at the july meet pics.. there are 2 cars with diff mounting.
3. shouldn't be an issue
4. good idea if you have one, icbc gives you a discount on your insurance if you have one. (One of our local club vendors will give you a deal on a alarm/immobilizer)

I moved back from Calgary in November 2002:
1 - you have a month grace will you need to license in BC. I believe that's all Alberta insurance will give. Talk to ICBC too.
2 - You just have to have the front plate on. A requirement to be licensed in BC in that you have to have the car inspected when it comes from you come from another province. I don't know why...money grab as far as I am concerned. I had a Mazda dealer 'inspect' it. They installed the front plate hold in the two dimples you have in you bumper.
3 - Those mods won't affect the aircare. The good thing is now, you may not need to do it at all. Again ask ICBC. I know I don't need to do it for 5 years because my P5 in a 02 too.
4 - Get the alarm/immoblizer, yeah ICBC does give you a discount, it doesn't amount to much but, hey, if it deters the thief why not?

So I just had my inspection done... and FAILED!!!

Only due to a crack in my windshield. It will cost me somewhere in the neighborhood of $550 to get it fixed in Vancouver. Anyone have any ideas on how I could get it done cheaper? I'm thinking I should just drive back to Alberta and get it done for a few hundred... where fixing glass is common and cheap.

Wait a sec,...because you failed, they won't give you BC insurance. Meaning if you replace the windshield then they will give it to you. The failer just means that you will have to replace the windshield under your Alberta insurance provider. Again meaning you will have to pay the windshield replacement deductable.

It would be like you getting a crack in Alberta (and still living there) and then getting you windshield fixed. It should be covered under your Alberta insurance provider.

Also, the windshield repair shop will just bill the Alberta insurance company.

You should not have any problem. I would go into a glass shop and confirm that with them. Alberta insurance doesn't know if your moving, they think: Maybe he had an accident getting to BC.

They don't know any different.
