There's all kinds of people. MS3 owners probably think they're special, I know I would. I have yet to meet an MS3 owner, but I know a few people who've own(ed) Mazda's and they're a little "sharper" than the rest. Mazda's performance and brand image is understated and people who buy them know this - just think "exact opposite of Pontiac."

These forums have the best gathering of people - I'm new to here, but have seen some real friendly folks. A common interest. And Michael was probably just in a hurry.....to show off.

They probably all just think you want to race! I can understand that, as I am not into that either. I am plenty friendly, but am not willing to do that just to prove a point and risk getting a ticket, points, and possibly wrecking my daily driver. On the other hand, if you are one of those people (cell-phone, tailgater, etc.) that think you can cut me off because I have a hatchback...... Ohhh, it's on! (fight)
 
People have purchased this MS3 as a FAST top of the line mazda 3 hatchback, so from that point of view, it would make sense that he wouldn't wave. Not everyone buys this a car and acts like an enthusiast. It's been purchased by regular everyday people looking for some KICK in their hatchback.

I've seen this with the Speed 6. A guy pulled up near me in his Speed 6 next to mine in the parking lot, and I was like, hey I love your car. He looked at mine, and said, oh yeah, you got the AWD turbo model too? He was not into the car at all. He likely went to dealership, wanted the top of line Mazda 6, and drove away in a Speed model.

This is how it works. The car is both an enthusiast car and an average consumer car. Now with cars like my S2000, it's not a practical daily driver, nor an upgraded trim of a highly mass produced car. It's purchased with pure enthusiast in mind, so this doesn't happen.

Or perhaps he was just an arrogant prick who didn't want to be bothered. ;)

Yeah, I noticed a lot of people don't acknowledge this, or see it. The fact that these 4 door sedans and hatchbacks are purchased in high mass form by every day people. Therefore when you make a car like the Speed 3 or 6, it's still really a Mazda 3 and Mazda 6, only it's hopped up and the top of the line model, so it's not all enthusiasts that line up and get them. Regular folks do to, people who have no idea car forums on the internet even exist, nor would they go on them even if they knew they did.

Fact is, this forum makes up a small percentage of actual owners. They come from every background, and every lifestyle. I saw a women in her late 30s driving a Speed 3, and I saw a guy old enough to be my grandfather driving a Speed 6. These cars cure the people who have been buying practical cars, yet were lacking the fun. Even my dad was looking at the Speed 3. He decided to get a GTI, since he's a VW guy, but it's possible I'd have seen my 67 year old dad driving one of these. The fact that he's driving a GTI is pretty cool, but my dad is no car enthsuiast who browses car forums. He's not much of a car enthusiast at all. He loves driving manual, and he likes power. That's IT!!!!! He loves my Speed 6!!!! :)

I've seen the same thing...
I've seen two other MS3's and I'll pull up beside them and wave at em hoping for a little friendly play but one guy ignored me and the other flipped me off...
 
I work in retail and a lot of people are just rude! I'm nice to everyone for the most part but if they are just dumb then I just ignore them. If you can't acknowlage someone being friendly then they have no soul. (headshake

Dude, that's crazy!! Where do you live, I'll make sure to make NO eye contact whatsoever with any drivers if I'm ever driving through there.(headshake

I usually check out any 3 hatches when i see them on the road just because I think they are really cool cars, but would neve expect to be flipped off trying to get someone's attention. Just shows what kind of society we live in today.

This response :flip:to a wave is like Gary Coleman punching that chick in the stomach who asked for an autograph!

What was your response to that guy?
 
I met a MSP driver in my area; he noticed my car and said "nice car" with a faint smile. I asked him if he was on DFWMazdas.com, a local group of enthusiasts. His face changed and he looked at me like I offered him buttsecks...

Now, I make it a point to size up the driver before attempting to "communicate", either behind the wheel or otherwise...
 
I'm 25, don't know how old you are. Here's a question, if you buy fast cars your whole life, and then you buy another fast car when you're 45, does it still count as a midlife crisis? I'd say it's just more of the same.
