Caliber SRT pics+blurb

I'm gonna wait to see the #'s some mags put out on this before I say too much.
The car is ugly but it has a turbo 4 cylinder engine so I'm intrested to see what it has. I don't agree with the american's don't have a 4 cylinder turbo car that is good looking and fast, what about the sky redline??? I'm not sure on the quality but it does look sexy.

The Turbo Solstice is also quite striking but a bit pricey in my opinion.

looks good on rims but the back still looks horrible to me...thats my only complain for the car..the back 1/3 section of the car, and the center console and shifter position.

I actually like it (from the outside anyway). Could the interior be any more 90's? I mean... good god that's awful. Besides that turbo gauge (nice placement dodge!) it feels like you're in a freakin minivan!! Since the interior is what you see 99.9999...% of the time, to me, that's clearly a deal breaker.

It's a shame really... cuz like I said, I dig the outside. It has a muscular, aggressive stance. Everyone's getting on it for being a CUV but, in reality, it's not that much taller than a MS3. oddly enough, the looks of the MS3 are what didn't sell me on the car. Everthing else was perfect. The idea of driving a station wagon around... pass! this thing though, I think it strikes a good balance.

All I know is... if the past is any indicator, once these things hit the roads and people start upgrading them with tons of cheap, warrantied mopar parts... the MS3's gonna have some stiff (albeit with a cheap ass fugly interior) competition.

Half of the experience of owning a car is the appreciation for how it looks.
When I look at Mazda's lineup, I see sleek, tasteful & sport-minded design. I would be proud to be behind the wheel of any one of them (RX-8, moreso ;))

Then I see this....thing.
I have to completely ignore the lifeless interior, the Aztek-inspired rear end and flabby sides to say anything positive about it. It has a derivative of the "Dodge aggressive" front end which, though a bit oversized, isn't bad. It could be powered by a GE turbofan and/or have ungodly track times, but if I feel ashamed to be even associated with the vehicle, you can forget about the sale.

Not biased at all in a Mazda forum.

Same components don't mean same tune

they are using macpherson struts and suspension..i believe that is the same suspension we have...

Even if they use the same Suspension components it doesn't mean they'll tune it the same. 80% of cars use MacPherson struts and they all handle differently.(drive)

I'm looking at price point...

I'm going to have to disagree with you on that. The Calibre SRT may not be a good example but the rest of the SRT line is ****** stellar.

Unless of course your argument is only considering 4-cylinder products on the market.

Yeah I'm looking at price point. I just find American cars fall apart when they are trying to build to a price point. The SRT's interior alone proves to me that Dodge missed the mark. All of Dodges interiors royally suck IMO. Then again I thought all the Chevy big block cars (Camaro, I-ROC) were disasters as well. A lot of balls but unrefined and poorly built.

I won't deny that I'm all about balance. I appreciate a car that offers an excellent interior AND well balanced chassis and powertrains at an affordable price. Delivering such a beast is a testament to great engineering. Any engineer will tell you that it's more challenging to build something great at a price point. I just find American cars (with the exception of Ford) lacking in this department. It's not the fault of engineering as much as the damned bean counters and stockholders.

Those rear fender flares are god-ugly.

I suppose there are some redeaming qualities about the exterior if you like the wedge look. Personally it took me some time to warm up to the MS3 exterior (I prefer the sedan aesthetic). Now I find myself drawn to it. The dogdge though- egad, their is no way I would committ to paying monthly for something that looks like it it will turn into a transformer at any minute :-)

the big fat steering wheels says it all. That car will take ona curve like the MS3 will take a icey curve covered in oil and lube. The BIG front [weight] just shouts understeer all over the place. I think its a small suv on roids...meant for drag racing only but not quite since it's a FWD. It's pretty much another incomplete american car with an identity crisis.

The Dodge is going to be yet another half-assed attempt at building a competitive product. There is no American car (Cobalt included) that can match the well-rounded design of most japanese/euro cars. Even the "mediocre" Nissans Sentra S-ER is a better package than American cars in the same class. The Caliber may be fast in a strightaway but I highly doubt it has the finess of a MS3 in the turns.

American car company's always fall short of greateness becasue they cut corners. At least that's my opinion. If Dodge really wanted to compete they would have redesigned that ugly interior and upgraded the materials. It looks like they just used the same bad interior they use in the base Calibers.

It's sad really.

I look at it this way:

It's another performance oriented entry level car. Remember, we aren't comparing high end sports cars in terms of pure performance. We are comparing cars price point cars with a performance edge.
There are people who analyze spec sheets as to why car A is better than car B. It all boils down to preference. Do think the average driver of a stock Caliber SRT is going to think to himself that he/she wished they had another 20ft lbs of torque? Probably about as much as a driver of a stock MS3 is going to say they miss that extra 20hp.
I don't think dodge screwed the pooch on this car yet. While the pictures I have seen today aren't flattering, I still want to see it in person.

besides, Dodge has a whole slew of SRT based cars that will kick our asses from here to bajesus and back.

Hmm.. now you're making me reconsider - I've always wanted a transformer car!! Friggin sweet!!

i thinks its got an agressive look to it but how well is this thing gonna handle ? i mean take a look at them on the road how high up they stand, now im sure this will have a beefy suspension but how well will it be to the ms3? i think there will be no comparison it maybe faster but i really dont think that its going to be able to handle the power its prolly gonna be sloppy like my pt cruiser turbo was power yes, handling um not so much...yea and i cant forget...

I don't think hatchbacks are the best looking cars. I didn't buy the ms3 just because of the way it looked. It was mainly because of the performance and the comfort of the car.

I'm sure it will sell good and look forward to running into one on the highway.
