Information display is blank

I have a 2006 Mazda 3 and the information display is dead. The LCD display will not light up or show the time, radio station or temperature. This is the stock radio that came in the car when I bought it new. The radio and CD player work fine. Any ideas? I looked in the manual but don't think it is just a fuse that needs replaced.

Good to see you got the right forum, more Mazda 3 people should see this over here...hope someone can help. Good luck!

In the 2006 models the LCD has a seperate harness plugged into vs. earlier models with a single plug for the whole stereo. Pull the HU and make sure that harness hasn't wiggled out a bit.

Have you pulled the HU for anything recently?

yeah i got the same problem and would love to know how to fix it! and i don't know what HU stands for :(

1st word: see picture.

2nd word: rhymes with submit/kentuckit

-well kinda, i never was any good at this game.

Mazda3 2006 LCD Panel died

The LCD Panel on my 2006 Mazda3 died also. Why does that happen? Is it a symptom of underlying problem with battery or electrical system?

What is procedure to fix it? About how much does it cost to fix?

Any clues appreciated. Thank you for reading my post.

Do you even get any sound out of the hu itself or not? if you are not then look in the owners man. and find the room fuse it is a 15a fuse and check that out that would be where i would start. i had a problem with mine shuting off then coming back on

The LCD information panel does not display time, radio station, temperature, etc. In addition the LCD Information panel does not light up as normal when headlights are on.

The radio is working. The radio buttons work.

I wonder what happend? Any clues appreciated. Thank you for comments.

i had this same problem, or so i thought. I bought some new maui jim polarized sunglasses and the first time i drove the car with them on i noticed my head unit was blank. I was pretty pissed until i took my glasses off and all of the sudden it worked

Have you guys verified that the LCD screen is getting power or not? In the 06 and up 3s the LCD should have a harness that is plugged directly into the back of it supplying power and display info. You can check yourself, it's really easy even for someone who knows nothing about cars or electronics. Here's how to get to it:

1. Open glove box and pop the fake carbon fiber strip thingy off. It has about four retention clips holding it on. Just pop it out in the middle and work your way to the left. Then once those are off come back to the one all the way on right.

2. Above the LCD you can pop off the vent cover, it has either 4 or 6 retention clips... can't remember. Be careful taking it off because there is a wire harness connected to the back of the Hazard light button.

3. After the vent cover is off, you should be able to see behind the LCD. There should be a white plug (wiring harness) behind the LCD. Just make sure that that's plugged in and not loose. If you push it in and it makes a snapping noise then you probably just fixed your LCD.

Again, anyone can do these things and you don't need to disconnect the battery to do any of this. If nothing was loose and the LCD still doesn't display anything just take it to the dealer and get it fixed under warranty. If you don't have a warranty anymore then just order the LCD from the parts department and install it yourself since you know how to get to it now.
