mp3 holding back???

2001 mazda protege mp3
ok i just had a obx header put on like weeks ago and ive almost felt like its slow but its louder..i dunno i feel like its holding back....is there anyhting i can do to make this thing go faster!...my buddy with a stock rsx beats me everytime...

well i know you will lose low end power with the obx style headers. i notice it with my thunder header....kinda sux. are you catless?

i have noticed it is slower city driving, but i can tell its a bit better on the highway. gets up to speed a lil faster and just drives more smooth...prolly cuz the engine is breathing better

by putting a "race" header on you let the exhaust flow out easyer but that takes away some of the low end power because if you really would be racing you should be in the higher revs.

From my understanding, OBX header gives more toque only after 4000RPM...
Correct me if I'm wrong.

would u gain back any low end if u put back on the stock header but replaced the stock cat with a high flow cat?

Possibly.. but why would you want that? It's very hard to gain lower end power... typicaly to get lower end power (like real power not 130hp) you need a BIG engine.. like a big block... a good example was the Ford GT when it first came out. It is easier to get more horsepower out of our engines at higher RPM's. You just need to learn how to shift it to get the most of it, takes a bit of time.

What RSX does your buddy have? Cause I know I can smoke the lower end one. But the Type-S is another storey. Just a header wont due.

a udp will really help your low end with a header. probably the best combination you can do for the car.

I have a friend with a type-s that has a spoon exhaust and runs 14.9-14.7ish area whenever we've gone out to the track, so I can see you having trouble in an mp3 without too many mods

i think he just means a regular rsx, not the type s, but honestly he will probably keep winng because you lost your low end power...if you have enough room you might over-take him on the top end, but with a NA car you need some back pressure in your exhaust. Its not like a turbo where you can elminate all the backpressure to gain hp. In NA if you lose too much backpressure you can hurt performance. Its a good example of how you have to really research parts before you just start spending money and slapping things on. (Im not talking smack on the OP I just mean in general).

Someone did mention UDPs and that with a lightened flywheel will be your best bet to get your low end back. In fact with a fidanza flywheel you will probably crush that rsx.
