*raises hand* question! cashmere are you sure that the stock hood weighs 70lbs? my old 240's hood was 80 lbs and the first time i popped my mazda3's hood i clearly noticed at least a 20-25lbs difference...crap, you have a speed3. does anyone know how much the regular 3's hood weighs?!

and yes, stock hood was weighed off the car !!!

I don't get whats going on with people and street unit but I have purchased many parts through them and not once had a problem. Hood looks very nice I like it a lot and the fitment looks damn good, from the pics atleast.

either way, i am sure there have been dissatisfied customers in the past, but for me as a customer, i am happy.

thanks for the compliments guys.

what about hood pins?? i remember seeing a lot of cars being destroyed when the cf lets go from the metal latch part

Incorrect Weight On Stock Hood

CaSHMeRe said:
yup, i was the mock up car for them. however, i'm not allowed to name anyone on these forums.

Stock hood weight: 72 lbs.

CF Hood with Stock Ducting: 20-22 lbs.

Stock Hood is NOT 72 lbs. I weighed it a few months ago, off the car. It weighs 39 lbs, NOT 72 lbs. Sorry to rain on this parade, but a CF hood will not be worth the cash.

Subing, and he is right, the stock hood weighs a bit over 38 lbs. with all ducting. Less than an 18 lb reduction is not worth the risks in my opinion, guess I'm out of this one.

My hood is off and sitting at the body shop where the repair work is being performed. The risks I see are as a daily driver rock chips/dings are a lot easier to touch up when it's steel. For the weight savings I was willing to live with it, but with 18 -20 lb different, nope. I thought SU just posted what you said.

they may not have been the ones that weighed it, but theyre putting the info out there

Actually it's the maker of the CF hood that said it, so they received errant info, or don't you understand that? Or if you're not able to whine about SU is your life meaningless?

oook well im gonna try and ignore that last sentance. Yes I understand that fiber images made the errant claim, i thought i was pretty clear about that when I said "they may not have weighed the hood, but theyre putting the info out there"

all I am saying is that based on SU's reputation, it does not surprise me that there is poor information coming from their website. And yes I love to b**** about SU because they screwed over more than a few members on here and I would hate to see it happen to anyone else.

and who are these members jbird ? who was screwed over ?

REMEMBER, i am in NO WAY affiliated with SU or FIBER IMAGES. just trying to help fellow members out !!!

I gotta go against the grain on this and say leave it carbonfiber and do not paint it. I think it would ruin the whole point of having a cf hood if you paint it. If you ar gonna paint it why not just get a hood made of aluminum?

the whole idea of carbon fiber is not for looks, its for weight reduction. I think painting it leaves the car looking stock!! Now $700-900 for the CF hood. I think that money would be better off spent in mods that will make the car faster then lightening it by a few pounds

i honestly dont know which specific members were screwed over, i didnt have mod status then so i wasnt privy to that info. I think im gonna be the bigger man here and just leave this alone. I really appreciate you trying to help out the members and i def DO NOT want to discourage that. I am leary of SU because of their former practices but Im not gonna s*** on ur thread anymore with that stuff.
