Damaged steering wheel emblem

Guess I hit the horn a bit too hard - there's a nice dent in the steering wheel emblem. Looks like I can pop the emblem out and fix it. If not, does anyone know where I can find just the emblem? Called the local dealer and they didn't know.

Thanks!!!

OMG!(rlaugh) That is something I'm have tempted to do every morning in traffic, but dont like hitting something with a airbag behind it.
I may still have a part list sheet at home, and will try to look on there. But the whole cover for the airbag maybe one unit.

the same thing happened to me...i just dont let it bother me becuase i know some ass hole is going to make me do it again....:)

Sorry man didn't find a part number on mine list for the emblemn itself, looks like it comes just with the cover. It looks like the cover can only be bought from Mazda as the complete Airbag assembly which is major expensive!
Best bet next would be to look around a junk yard to see if a 3gen protege has a deployed airbag.

Thanks for the ideas. I think I'm going to remove the emblem and pop the dent out. Any reason I shouldn't do this? Removing the emblem won't set off the airbag, will it?

Thanks!

I did this a while ago, same f*ing thing, when I asked the lovely people here told me that it was an airbag cover so the only way to get a new emblem was to buy a new airbag.......and they said that it wouldn't just pop off for whatever reason, or even if it did I'd do more damage to it trying to get it off. Luckily my dent is centered so it almost looks like it's supposed to be that way :D . If you do fix it though let us know how!

my wife did it in her old civic. but she pretty much punched the steering wheel.......

seems like it would take a lot of strength to dent the emblem on the steering wheel..

you don't need to hit the middle of the steering wheel to honk someone. I can use my thumbs to use the horn. That whole middle piece will activate the horn. So when i have my hands on the sides of the steering wheel, I just use either of my thumbs. quicker that way so I don't have to remove my hand from the wheel itself before pressing it. ;)

personally, i like to headbutt my horn to activate it. it gives other motorists the illusion that im crazy and that they shouldnt **** with me ;)

Screw that, it's louder when I slam my whole hand down then when I just use my thumbs.

Matty...I work with airbags for a living, and all i have to say is you're pretty much screwed as far as removing the cover and whatnot. the whole cover is part of the airbag module assembly. You wouldn't want to remove it. And about the emblem itself...I would highly discourage removing it and trying to put a new one on it. Generally, the emblems are either mounted using folding tabs or melting pegs. Removing one would probably cause some damage to the cover or cushion, plus, you wouldn't be able to mount it permenantly without getting to the backside of the cover. Sorry to break the bad news. Oh, and mashing your steering wheel won't make the airbag go off...unless you somehow send a electrical pulse directly to the squib while doing so...

Well...fudge. I was actually thinking about taking my emblem off and putting a custom emblem on. There goes that idea. Unless I want to glue over the top of the existing one.

wow....i remember this post! it was one of the first ones I responded to!

anyway, all i have to say about the whole gluing thing -- bad idea. I know it's no fun to have to stare at it, and even less fun knowing that there are some things that are best left un-modified, but unless you want to have a flying projectile shooting off at you or your passenger if the airbags ever need to deploy, it would probably be a good idea to leave it alone.

believe me, I've worked with these things for a few years now, and they should be respected. yeah, they look so innocent when you see them on tv (fluffy pillows - ha!), but unless they are left the way they were designed, they can kill. these suckers come out at around 200-300 mph. will your glue hold then?? probably not...
