'02 Protege ES Sedan
I just found out that Ford Motor Company owns mazda, thank god they do not use american parts on our cars! I did not know this, and i don't know if anyone else has posted this but that just blows my mind away, does Ford actually own Mazda or are they in partnership with them or something? Also are the future mazda cars going to have american parts in them? :wtf: :'(

Yes, that is why alot of people including myself thought that we could use the Ford Focus ZX3 parts on our cars because u open the hood they look exactly alike but not the same inside the engine.

i can't beileve this $hit! oh well i'm glad my car is 98% japan parts or whatever it has on the window stiker, have it here somewhere...

Alrighty, here is the deal...Ford owns 33% of Mazda, which in Japan is a controlling interest.

So, technically they don't "completely own" Mazda, but they have enough to share car platforms, motors, etc...

As far the Protege is concerned, every Protege made so far is/has been made in Japan, all designed by Mazda. The Focus shares absolutely nothing with the Protege. The older Escort used to share the motor with some of the older Proteges and Miata. The suspension design is similar enough that some of those parts are interchangeable.

The next version of the Focus however, will be pretty similar to the next gen Protege...
