Wiring up for all 4 headlights on high beam

I noticed the P5's headlight system only uses two lights when on high beam. I'm gonna wire up for 4 lights on high beam. I've done this before with other vehicles. It involves use of a simple auto relay available at parts stores.

The low beam lamps are 60W as I recall, so 120W total. @12V nominal, that's 10A. So a 10A or 15A relay should suffice. Wiring is simple and all work is done in the engine compartment, up front near the headlights themselves. The extra power comes from the battery and does not course through the headlight switch in the cab.

If enough are interested, I'll do pics and a write up.

I have my fogs rewired so that they come on with either the parking or low beams, but the fogs still turn off when the highbeams are turned on.

Want to do a how to? how about one that allows you to run your fogs off the parking lights and lawbeams and stay on with the high beams too. So all 6 lights could be on at the same time.

Just a thought.

I did a search for this a long time ago when I first got the car and haven't looked lately. If there is a thread already on it, I'm sure somebody will tell (flame) me about it.

This must be what my bro was talking about when he said the other lights went out on high beam.

Actually, this would be a nice mod. All 6 on would throw a good amount of light. No rewiring would be needed if the signal from the high beams that kills the fogs could be located and interrupted. It's all relay controlled I'm sure. I will figure this out and post when I do.

That is a consideration and I wouldn't push my luck or flaunt the law.

But I'd also go ahead and run 6 on if I was out in the desert at night or something. I do a good number of road trips.

i'm sure you wouldn't use all 6 lights where there's traffic/cops though.

i do a lot of pitch black traffic less driving on my way home, so this would be awesome for avoiding rabbits, dogs, and other s*** that decides to hide on the side of the street until you come along.

you could see a little preview when you pull the highbeam stick forward just a tiny bit you can see all 6 lights on until you pull it too far and you hear the fogs turn off.

Just ignore the part about the daytime running lights, unless ur from canada. ur pretty much regrounding it, and supplying the fog light relay with a constant power from a source, I used a blue wire under the steering column, that was slightly bigger than the rest of the wires it was taped next to, and equal in size to a black wire.... get under the dash and you will see what im talking about... my fogs, high and low beams all run at the same time if I put the highs on now... and the fogs are totally independant of the headlights, I can turn them on and off when I want. Pretty sweet mod i think

When I hit the high beams, my high beams and my low beams are lit - as in all 4 bulbs. Bright as all heck with my low beam HIDs, PITA if I want to just flash someone in the daytime when my lights are off. If I flash during the day, I keep them on for at least 7-10 seconds. Flashing HIDs for a moment = BAD.

Strange that turning on your highs only causes your inner bulbs to light.

I posted my variation of the mod on page 13 - in my variation the fogs can be turned on anytime the dash lights are on (parking lights or low beams or high beams are on).

I was actually wrong zoom. My bro and I were checking it out and he meant that the fogs went off on high beam. All 4 of mine come on too.

But now I'm planning a mod were all 6 can come on. I'm debating whether to do a mod using the parking lights, like has already been posted, or a more straight up mod where the fogs are on/off by themselves. The parking light mod would make the warning chime sound if the fogs are left on.

my fogs come on when I turn my car on. all you have to do is tap into the ignition wire under the steering column and splice it into the relay... read thru the whole post on the fog mod in the how to, and you will see where ppl have done it. all 6 of my lights come on when I hit my brights
