hey everyone, i've been reading the site for a month or two now researching a purchase and figured i might as well join now that i've got my 07 speed6 gt bl/bl in the driveway! a ton of good info on here, thank you. one thing i've been having trouble finding is info in regards to good rim/tire setup for winter weather. i was interested in possibly just putting steel wheels on so my current rims dont get damaged. any ideas about sizing or suggestions? whats got me going here rather than a tire shop is that i've heard steelies may not fit with regards to brakes, etc. has anyone else out there had this come up? if not, specs on cheap rims for here in the NE that will fit the car would be much appreciated. thanks in advance. will post pics soon....

I wish you luck finding 18" steelies although it looks as if 17" would clear the front calipers - even then you may find it hard to source 17" steelies.

IMHO, you got one in the right color...
When I bougth my MS6, the dealer, the mazdaspeed guy hooked me up through Town Fair with a set of 17" Conti winter contacts on a set of Pruven 5 spokes with a set of tuner lugs. Way under $1000 when I bought the car, excellent winter grip, not noisy, still reasonable for safe dry traction, and I DRIVE the car pretty hard. And the 5-spokes look every bit as good on the car as the stock 18's. (See my avatar pic.)
New London Ct. L-M Mazda, ask for Jay or Charles, tell him Steve said to call I'm just a customer, but they know me since I'm repeat (3 Mazdas since 05). Email me if you like. Hurry tho, I'll be off line this weekend, maybe into next week.

yup.

your best bet is to pick up a really cheap set of stock 17" wheels off ebay or the like. If you want somethign different and/or find a better deal, make sure that it will fit by checking here:

that thread has the bolt pattern, size, and offset information for shopping for new shoes.

good luck and congrats on the new car :D

I had 17" steelies on mine for a bit, these steelies are the ones that the dealer recommended. The only problem with them was that the offset caused them to stick out of the fender, and when I had rear passengers it would sometimes rub. So if you put steelies on the car, be aware that it could rub in the rear.

I then found some used MSP Racing Hart wheels, the offset was almost identical to the stockers, so problem solved for me!

Here's what it looked like with steelies:

do you want a set of stockers so you have 2 sets, 1 to mess up and another to keep clean? If so, pm me.
