i'm going to paint my headlights this weekend but i'm not exactly sure what kind of paint to use. i know the "how-to"s talk about bbq paint because its flat and heat proof. but i want to do my lights with a gloss paint, just like cars come with stock.

so will engine enamel work? i used it for my valve cover and its 500* restistant. any suggestions?

I used trim black. The plastic piece that your are painting doesn't get that hot. I am going on 2 years with trim paint and no problems .

You can use any paint that you want.

Here are some pictures from my headlight baking day

I've been looking to do this soon too. When looking for myself, I read that a semi-gloss paint will give more shine than the bbq paint but not a blinding shine.

If you read further in the headlight black out how-to, someone replied that a high-temp paint is not necessary. I wonder if adding a clear-coat to the flat bbq paint would achieve a comprimise in shine. Just my two cents. Anybody have any other ideas?

I would like to see someone paint their lights the same color as their car, like a color match. Anyone ever try this with their headlights?

Ive seen this done with a red p5. I didnt care for the look. If you search hard enough you might be able to still find the pic on the forum.

i used regular flat black automotive paint. high temp isn't necessary. i saw a car with body colored headlights and it does look a bit odd, almost unfinished. it's one of the few things that bothers me about the c6 corvette.

I just got up so my mind isn't working yet. I forgot his name but there is a guy from MOCC with a laser blue P5, he has laser blue headlights and they look nice. The only color that I have seen that looks really good as body color is black mica.

An old friend had a black mica P5 and he painted his headlights with black mica.

Bill if you remember who it was, lemme know so I can harass him for pics. I've been wanting to paint my headlights blue as well.

Has anyone painted headlights on a white car? I was thinking of something to cut the shininess of the chrome; maybe just some flat clearcoat. Can the same thing be done on the taillights?

those color matched headlights are pretty cool.

so then if heat is not an issue i guess the semi-gloss enamel paint will work. cool. thanks for the help.

No, it doesn't matter whether or not the paint is high temp. My boyfriend and I did all the prepwork, and then a professional painter did mine. I just searched through his paint remains and got a color I liked (family member=good deal). People give positive comments because they like the glossy paint.

I j/ used tamiya model spray cans,
and it's been 3 years now, no dull, everything still looks new..
i used flat black.
