What is the thing attached to the bottom of the car directly under the spare tire? I believe that it has something to do with the gas tank. Is this thing really needed or can I just connect the hoses together and take it completely off? I know a good deal about motorcycles and I think this thing is similar to an EVAP canister on motorcycles. Its usually not needed. Any thoughts, suggestions. I'm just asking because its right in the way of my audio setup. Those extra 3 inches under there would be great.

I'm not really positive what you're talking about, but I do know that the fuel filter is inside the gas-tank. Could it be that?

This is a box about 12 x 6 x 3 inches directly under the spare tire with two hoses attached to it. I'm to chicken to start dismantling it without a little heads up.

blah let me go clean my trunk out and see what you are talking about. I have a listing of most parts on the P5, just need to know what it looks like first.

Justin,

I saw that thing in there, too. Not sure what it is. Didn't bother to check. You might do a search on subs in the spare tire well.

What kinda bikes do you ride?

Right now I have a KTM Duke Supermotard. The thing I'm talking about is actually under the car. Look underneath the car and you'll see what I'm talking about. It has a black plastic cover with 6 screws covering it. Its definetly hoses, not wires. Its connected byt the hoses to another canister that is then connected to a line going to the gas filler tube. I believe its some sort of clean air vent type thingy and therefore not needed.

Yep just noticed the cover, neighbors probably wondering why I am outside at 11 pm under my car for lol.

Are you seeing a Square box with a bracket doing Length wise with the body of the car under it? If so that is the Charcoal canister. The two hoses come out facing the front of the car?

Maybe that has something to do with the vapor canister for the gas tank.

DUKE? Cool. I really like those. I was thinking I want one, but I don't know. I also like the Beull Firebolt. Right now I'm on a 748 (for sale). Speaking of motards, we just started a couple classes for them in our roadrace club. www.cmraracing.com There are people out there on YZF426s, XR400s... we even have a couple of Cannondale bikes! One is a factory 'tard with the Ohlins forks and shock. Another guy races his Husquavarna! It's so off the hook.

Here is a quick scan of the parts under there

Yep #5...thats the culprit. thanks man. My Duke is for sale if anyone wants it. Got to love the 748. I used to own a 900sp but I was too scared to race it. Now I need to sell the DUke to get a turbo. I'm never satisfied

Ok cool. Now the question is could you remove it without any harm. Well guess you could always connect the two ends together and send the fumes directly to the filter. Just be worried about a build up happening in the lines and cause a fire. After all it is the fumes of fuel that burn, not the fuel itself. But if you got a smaller charcol canister made up, relocated, attached it...perhaps that would work.

Is it really that much in the way?

Actually there is pretty decent room there, might just be able to get longer hose made up and route them around your stereo wires.

actually I'm going to cut the bottom of the spare tire well out to make room for the speakers. The charcoal canister is right where i need to cut. I'll probably look into getting a smaller one and relocating it. Thanks for all your help.
