What is the deal with the Cruise Control?

OK, I want to know if anyone is experiencing this with their Cruise Control....,

On the road (does not matter what speed), but lets just say 70mph, when I hit the set button to engage 70mph and take my foot off the accelerator like I am suppose to , the speed will just always drop 3-4 miles per hour and then slowly comes back up to 70. And then it will go "past" it to almost 73 and then back down to 70 where it then will wave 1-2 miles above and below 70mph constantly even on dead level roadways for as long as I have it set. It does this with any speed setting and it is driving me nuts and the dealer says: "that is the way Mazda Cruise is and to consider it totally normal". Are any of you with 5-spd or Auto experiencing this?????????

Also, (this is for you Auto Trans owners) Sometimes if I bump the "accel" button to go a little faster (even on 1 press) it "downshifts" to 3rd and holds third gear for no reason until it decides it feels like it should hit overdrive. And yes, it does this even on even pavement as well.

I just drove a buddies 5-speed and his wavers a little as well (obviously not doing the kickdown to third due to the manual trans).....but I am just curious as to what other owners (both 5-speed trans and Auto trans) are going through.....

Thanks,

Taylor

mines does it to, u set it at 75 and drops to like 70 and then goes back up a little higher and after a while just levels out....

mine might drop 1 or 2 mph but id does not fluctuate back and forth like you describled. also my auto downshifts when i press accellerate. thats what its supposed to do. its normal

i think people need to stop looking for bs trouble things in their cars and i am refering to the floormats moving, the gas filler tube cap missing. just enjoy the car, there is nothing wrong with them.

I will test mine out for you today as I will be driving a good 200 miles RT from Orlando to Tampa and let you know what mine does. It is a 5 Speed BTW.

I found that the speed dips if I take my foot off the gas right away but it does not dip as much if I keep my foot on the gas a second or two longer.

As for the fluctations, I haven't looked at it carefully enough to notice.

I have a 5 speed and haven't noticed any fluctuation.

It does drop a couple for a sec. but depends on the road condition - hill, flat etc.

I don't think you're "supposed to take your foot off the accelerator" - I always engage the cruise, keep my foot just as it was, and wait for the cruise to "take it away" from me. Works great, and no dip in speed whatsoever.
