Went to the dealership today

I went to go see a mazdaspeed today in Richmond, VA. I went to Capitol Mazda and the salesman was pretty cool. They have like6 mazda speeds on the lot. One Yellow, two black, and three titaniums. I really like the titaniums, that will probably be what I get. The dealer had a $2000 Dealer Market Adjustment on it, I was like wtf when I saw the price and asked the guy. He said that once I picked one I like that they could get me into one for under 20k, we told him that we would not buy today. So we went for a test drive, but seeing as my mom and both of my sisters cannot drive a manual and I am just learning, they did not want me to drive it, so the salesman drove it. The guy really wanted to show off the performance of the speed. So we took a right onto West Broad in the middle of the day and he floored the car, redlining first and nearly redlining second, got to about 65mph in a 45. I was in the front and my mom and sisters were in the back and were freaked. Well then we kept driving and I figured he would take it easy, but he didnt he just kept pushing the gas harder and harder. He also wanted to show how well it handles and I was amazed as we went on a curvy back road. Then we turn onto Staple Mills Road and its another 45 mph zone bam upto 75 as soon as we get on. This guy seriously did not care about the car. The car had 11 miles on it when we drove off of the lot, when we got back it had about 20 on it. I am glad I am not getting that car and I hope that salesman does not drive the one I get. So we asked how they were selling and he said they sold the first 2003 models really quickly but have not sold as many lately, but he said he just sold one to a girl who could not drive a manual well either and he had to drive it to her house for her. Wonder if that person is a member on the board? If so did they give you a good deal?

The car is really great and there was no hesistation and it was 95 today.

wow i would hope that is just a demo car.....get the vin number and make sure you dont buy that one, lol.

yeah, thats the way the salesman drove my car.. which kinda pissed me off.. its like they dont care about the cars they are driving... a few other ppl have told me that they have been on a test drive and the sales person was driving really fast... thats not too cool....

I am not gonna buy that one. Its the only yellow one they have at that dealership and yellow is not my color, just screaming "give me a ticket"

that sux.. i can see salesman driving crazy though.. i would want to too if i were them. seeing all these cars come in and be bought.. you'd just want to unleash some speed.. lol anyway, luckily my car wasn't driven like that. i'd be pissed if it was... about the color thing, i have the spicy orange, and nothing screams "give me a ticket" as much as that color, or that's what i thought. i just got back from a trip from central IL to knoxville TN.. round trip no tickets and not being pulled over.. saw TONS of cops, many being un-marked tricky punks!! maybe i was just lucky..

ummm, you just described every test drive I have ever taken. My favorite one was back in '00 when we went lookin for a GSX and the salesman told us/me I could not get all 4 tires to spin on it? To me, that is a challenge. And, YES, it can be done.. takes a little bit of thought and preperation but under normal driving conditions it may be difficult to do. To the point, I never buy the car I just test drove. I usually find one with no miles on the odometer.

When WRX's first came out, my friend and I went out to look at them, but the saleman wouldn't let us drive it. And we could both drive sticks. WTF? Anyways, the salesman BEAT the hell outta that car. I highly doubt we would've driven it that hard. I feel sorry for the person who bought that car.

regarding cost...

quote from my local dealer by email:

"Thank you for your inquiry concerning the Mazdaspeed.
My price on the vehicle you requested is $18000 plus
tax, title, and registration. "

not bad and no negotiations?? joe

I bought mine from Whitten Bros. Mazda on Midlothian Turnpike. At the time I couldn't drive stick shift either so my husband test drove it. He did not get up on it at all. He is very respectful like that! He loves my car. We did not want the guys there to drive it though. And in fact really they didn't! It was there for only a day when we bought it. I got the s-plan so my pricing was cheaper. I walked out the door paying 20,000 and that is with the extended warranty, tax, title, tags. At that point the 3.5 had not come out yet so there was a more limited view on how many Speeds there were. We could have probably gotten it cheaper, but hey. I love it. To me it was worth it....and that is that. I am so glad to see more people around here interested in the Speeds!
Hey you should check out the Forced Induction Tech area. Spool is having an open house at the end of this month! The directions are on Spool's website, but I could tell you how to get there a lot easier if you aren't familar with Chesterfield/Midlothian!

Mine came off the truck, into PDI, was supervised as it was driven for two miles for the inspection. Then I drove it and bought it. Its good to know what your car was up to before you buy it.

Now the Red evolution across the street... don't buy that thing.. I.. uh... "tested" it. MOstly sideways... sorry.

Ill check it out thanks. I was gonna go to Whitten Brothers the same same day but my sister who came with me had to be at work by 4:30, so it was time to go back to Charlottesville by the time we got done at Capitol Mazda.

I did the same when I bought my 2003 Accord.

I don't believe that. A break in period can't hurt any car now can it?

yep, as much as today's new fangled technology has deemed break-in's useless, i still take the time to do it... call me old-fashion but... (anyone remember 1st MP3 in NH's quote? :D )
