weather stripping

Where is the weather stripping on the car? I just baught an orange 03' MSP and I have no idea what everyone's talkin about removing the weather stripping.

Open the hood. Near the back of the engine bay, there's a strip of black rubber going across the bay. It's right where the back of the hood sits when it's closed.

It's just held in by some plastic clips; very easy to remove.

um taking off the front stripping is a bad idea, that just protects from your hood rubbing on stuff. youll start rubbing paint off of you car in some places if you take it off. i think joe p had something to say about the front stripping once. ill find a pic and show you which stripping that everyone takes off tho, its the one closest to the winshield

Good example, cept' next time, circle whatever you are noting in a more contrasting color...makes it easier to point out.(thumb)

Bright pink isnt contrasting? *boggle* a thicker line maybe :P but i was lazy. Im at work now, plenty of time, maybe I will redo it lol.

Boy, now I feel like a knob. Sorry bout that, and I'm not trying to use this as an excuse, but I'm colorblind...I didn't notice the line at first, that's why I brought it up.

But thanks for the "more contrasting" pick to clairify things:D

that's a good point. I think most people drop their hood about 6-10 inches for the hood to close and that way, it will damage the paint inside teh hood and on the engine bay surroundings over time.

I'd like to hear what Joe P has to say about taking off everything though. Logically, i can't think of a bad reason not to take them off.

Dexter - there is a rubber trimming/rubber that prevents water/wind to get around the top of the headlamps. Check it out, it's located on the underside of the hood.

hukster00, the engine gets hot as balls really fast, and the hot air has lil room to escape, so removing the weatherstripping, as highlighted above :) gives more room for the hot air to get out, especially while driving. It comes in the front air dams, and has a place to leave out the backside now, without the stripping, more air can flow through there.

I used my fingers. and the one all the way in the back i used pliers cuz i have short stumpy t-rex arms. ok there not stumpy, but im short. i just couldnt reach it. dont break the clips tho, or else youll nevar get em back in and your dealer will void your whole warranty :) j/k

So guys n gals how about this.....we can make a make-shift ram air for the engine bay. Just use one of the empty fog light holes and make a cone like device that could rout cool air up into the engine bay....yes? (hippy)
