We may not have it SO bad :)

I was just "parousing" the S4 forums (did a search on google)
to see what type of problems these beauts have wrong w/ them.
Also I called a local tune shop / service shop www.currysauto.com to see what they said.

MOSTLY they said it was the turbos... they burn out. Also, the tranny is a weak point. To replace it (not under warranty) cost $8K:eek:

The KK03 turbos burn out really quickly b/c they are smaller than anything I've ever seen (saw supertuner tv this weekend and those tools were changing one out of a 1.8T to the KK04).

To upgrade to the KK04 costs $10K

SO! There you have it. We're complaining about small issues, and it could be MUCH worse (or better which ever way you look at it)

Big Issues w/ the B5 S4:
1. KK03 turbos burn out quickly
2. Tranny weak
3. coil packs (all audis)

I didn't watch those two numbskulls (who actually seem to know what they're doing when it comes to german crap) this weekend, but my buddy who's big into Audis was saying they did that intall and gained 100+whp...for $10k...On an a4. INSANE!!!

NOTE: My buddy didn't say it was 10k to do what they did.

Servo,

Yeah, 100 HP for 10K :D That is sick.

I miss my 3rd gen:

They start in the High 40's to low 50's brand new... A 2002 back last year was like 48, but now you can get them for 32K :D They hold their value like a 90 year old hooker

Yeah the B6 body style is cool as well (but they have delayed the launch due to some engine problems)

They sound like Mazda! :D

audi trans dont cost 8000, and a turbo replacement is not 10000... do some research on the internet, and look for the price of a k04 turbo....

Audis are glorified VW's just like Mazdas are now glorified Fords :)

j/k...no flames please

Yuo guy's are waaaaayyy off!
The upgrade they did on Tuner TV this weekend was from a Ko3 to a Ko4 and the cost of the opgrade was $2500 not 10K like you guy's were saying. Our turbo's are very comparable in size and slightly bigger on output to the audi's ko3.But the upgrade they did ,did NET over 100 HP to the wheels.
Very respactable numbers if I might say.
BTW.My buddy just did a KO4 swap on his 98 audi 1.8t and he did his for about 2G's so their price might have been a little on the high side.He didn't do the mani swap that they did ,so that may be where the $500 difference was?
Matt;)

Well if you're replacing the transmission with Audi OEM transmission, then 8G is probably about right. OEM replacements are expensive, especially since it's from a "luxury" VW manufactor. And the coil problems?? that is common among VW build cars. And don't know about 10G on a turbo upgrade sounds too much. Unless that turbo got 4 rings stamped on it. And what you pay for mostly is that 4 rings and the heritage of that marque.

I didn't think that sounded right. I went and asked my buddy and he said it was 2500$, but I then I thought that sounded on the low side? Wouldn't they need a new chip to get it all to work right? or at least a piggy back?

KyRaceFan,

I am not flamin' ya, but you gotta read a little better!

Here is what I typed:

They only do AUDI OEM equipment only. And yes for the 1.8T it's only $2500 for 1 turbo, but if you remember, the S4 is a BiTurbo, so it's $5000 for just the turbos and then more for the labor. That is what they charge. That is a FACT from them, not me making up some BS numbers  And for the Tranny, yup it's OEM equipment as well.

I was just simply stating how expensive shops are around this area. The labor rate at the MAZDA dealer is $74.50 an hour (maybe that's universal now, but that's pretty friggin unreal)

Matt,

A 1.8T is MUCH different than the S4.

A 1.8T K04 swap cost $1699 at this shop (not including the ecu reprog.) http://www.currysauto.com/prod-turbos.asp

The S4 has more complicated workings and there are 2 turbos on a V6 engine squeezed in the engine bay. Less space to work = more labor and more $$
