2002 Mazda Protege5 Msp Turbo kit noticeable Surging under boost since day i installed it and always making a loud constant whooooosh under acceleration like a cold air intake would. so i dont know if its a boost leak or its the intake and the turkey i cant tell if its the bov sound or compressor surge. bought the kit used obly getting mayb 4-5 psi boost and not hard. if i boost lightly it pulls harder than if i try n boost hard. all i hear is that whooosh sound then the turkey when i let off.. what do u guys think?

Yep, pretty small boost leak (smaller leak=louder). Check and re-torque each connector. If you don't find a loose one - let us know.

The inability to make boost unless you baby it means perhaps a bad BOV. I would try adjusting or replacing that first.

Compressor surge can also be caused by a bad BOV.

+1 on the bov being at fault almost identical to what mine did.

Also get a tune its runing pretty rich

Ok guys so my bov was not opening i had too many washers in there and too stiff a spring.. i put back the original spring and it opened immediately. then i started adding washers till the bov was open a lil bit on idle but closed under acceleration.. Completely different sound now its a whoosh vs a turkey. so that part is good but i am still surging and only getting 4lbs of boost.. and what u mean a tune? scratch n sniff told me this ecu was flashed if thats what u mean and the only leak i found was the air filter intake to the turbo i tightned it up but dont know if that would cause an issue or not

It's probably surging because of the tune. Not sure about the flash. But I do know that the stock tune is pretty bad and worthless. Afrs under boost should not be in the 10's

It certainly sounds like a boost leak. The car running rich is normal for a stock MSP tune, reflashed pcm doesn't make much of a difference.

Ok so what are my options? What are things to check n how? Sory guys remember im still a turbo noob but am willing to take advice n learn

Google how to do a smoke test. You should be building 6-7psi

Also bov should not be open at idle

Ok thanks guys i will update this weekend when i do the smoke test and the boost leak test and add more washers to bov to close it at idle.

where are you getting your vac/boost source for you BOV? Make sure you aren't getting it from the tuning valve solenoids those have a check valve (vac only port)

If you have on going BOV issues i suggest getting a synchronic BOV. 0 Turkey, no adjustments needed, install and forget.

The BOV Being open at idle will depend on the design of the valve and how its adjusted. Both BOVs Ive had, greedy rs and now synchronic, would stay open at idle.

vac for Bov is coming from the intake mani the middle one that the cruise control uses. my boost gauge is t'd off my pcv valve vac line my bov works now i just had too many shims in it it no longer sounds like the video but the hesitation is still there so this weekend i will readjust the bov as turbo xs says it should b closed at idle and im gonna run a smoke test and boost leak test and will update when done

ok guys sorry for the delay but i did the boost leak test and found many leaks. i have sinced repaired them today and i did another boost leak test and i only have 2 boost leaks.1 is from injector #3 so i know i need injector o rings and the other its leaking from my turbo xs type H bov. the brass thing that opens under decelleration throws bubbles when i apply air into the system.. i tried adding a crap more washer and it still does it so its getting past it somehow.. how is that brass part supposed to make a seal?
