Tire Knot

The potholes are terrible in Maryland after the crazy winter we just had. I had an unexpected meeting with one the other day and now I have a huge knot in one of my tires. The tires have about 5-6k on them as of right now. Am I still going to have to buy 4 new tires or can I get by with just 2? This is for an MS6.

I had a dry rot in one of mine and when i went back to the garage, they measured the tread depth and got a bit of a different tire that was almost perfectly matched.

I feel for you. I'm surprised that I haven't destroyed my tires yet with how bad the roads are around here.

Hopefully somebody will jump in with the actual numbers, but I believe that Mazda has a specific treshhold for how different the tires can be in diameter. It was like 1/32 of an inch or something. The dealer might be able to tell you.

It doesn't sound like you have many miles so my gut feeling is that you'll be okay with 2 new tires. I'm pretty sure that getting just one would freak out the AWD system.

simply put, if you have AWD, get 4 new tires unless the difference is less than 1/8th on an inch. any more than that you can buy yourself a new diff
