System Layout Ideas

I just purchased two beautiful Audiobahn subs and This is my idea for a box and layout..Please let me know if any of the guru see these ideas to be a problem....There will be two seperate sealed boxes ..probably 1/2mdf 1.2 fiberglass..Let me know whaat you guys think!

That is my trunk if you couldn't tell...those two black shapes in he back corners are where the wheel wells jut in....Also as you can see these subs WILL be reverse mounted(I just bought 2 12" Audiobahsn with the chrome, flamed bucket, so I want to show them off.)

All Questions\Comments welcome..

The box will have to be rasied a bit to get the power wire ti te amps. I would also use 3/4 MDF, even though you are glasing the inside. Atleast use it on the baffles, glass won't hold a thread.

How about ditro blocks, caps, crossovers, ext?

How is the air going to vent into the car from the trunk? Are you totaly blocking the rear seats?

About the construction....I think I will probably make all 5 sides out of 3/4 mdf..then just the front part with many layers of fiberglass so I get that nice contour..the insides will be reinforced with mdf

The box wont be as high as the whole trunk..So there should be an extra 4-7 inches of room for air to travel up there from inside the car...

Please note, these are the beginning of a long, extensive plan and production..I don't know a huuge amount about this stuff..so as far as distroblocks, caps, and other wiring necessities go I will really need help on knowing what to get..I guess I should start putting together a Wiring Diagram...

errr.....2 12" Audiobahn Flame subs?
I have specd out a system for my MSP and I looked into audiobahn. I listened to one 10" in a ported box with like half the power it normally gets(800 watts instead of 1600), and it was loud as BALLZ. have you heard these subs? do you understand how insanely loud 2 12"s will be? or are you underpowering them? and yea, ur gonna need some way to let large quantities of air out of that trunk or its gonna sound crapporific. My friend has a RF power 15" with 1000 watts in his bravada and when he put it in his new 2.5rs it sounded so bad he was wishing he had my little 10s....

what amps are you going with?

Yes, from what I understand they are ridiculously loud....Everything i do I go for the extreme lol As far as underpowering them, I definately will be...just becuase to give them the power they need I would have to spend over a grand and I just dont have it to shell out for an amp...

Our (Mp3 Owners) trunks have great depth to them...Becuase of this, I am figuring on making the box, very short(in height) but quite long (in length)...I figure this will give me the required amount of air volume inside the box, as well as a lot of space above the enclosure for air to move....Am I wrong here?

I still have a while before I am buying my amps, so I will giev some thought to this..I was thinkking of an Audiobahn 18001DQ that I found for about 500..

Also, what would I need for distroblocks(what do they do?), caps, alt?, wires, fusses etc...

distrobution blocks just let you get the singlewire from the battery to multiple amps easier. To be honest i find Audiobahn to be full of s***. there is no possible way for an amp to generate 1800 watts rms from a 4 guage wire. The amperage needed would exceed the capability of the 4 guage. If it had a direct 1/0 input I'd be a believer.

If your going to run something that serious you may want to get a more powerful alternator. Our charging systems can't handle over a 100 amp draw and if its asked to do so it will begin to damage. Atleast 1 farad of capacitance per 500 watts. For a 1000 watt rms amp you'll need atleast 2 1 farad caps.

So wait..you don't think that amp can output what it says it can, or you dont think that the gauge wire it says it needs is correct?

SO a new alt is definately something to consider....about how mouch would a high output alt run?

Thanks for all your help...I'm gonna do use the info you just gave me on caps to draw up some kind of preliminary wiring diagram...

I have the AW1206Q.....Here is a diagram that I just put together...I still need to fill in different guages...but besides that I think its ok....Please tell me if I need anything

Keep all the caps on the sub ap also you want them to be within a few feet in power wire to the sub amp. I don't know what it take but I think its 4 guage if this is true then It can't produce that much power. 1000 watts rms is the upper limit of a amp being fed 4 guage. Crutchfield list the audiobahn as taking 4 guage, so if this is true then audiobahn is full of s***.

Also, you have to ground the amps at the same spot.

What kind of amp do you already have?

i posted a pic of mysystem like this, and someone recommended that i wire remote wire to the amps in a series as not to blow something in the head unit i think it was a good idea and i would recommend the same.

Remote wire is a parallel connection no matter how you connect it. Its all the same. Just don't try to turn on more then 3 amps with one remote lead froma head unit. You may damage it. If 4 or more amps are involved you'll need a relay.

thats easy..i bought the car used with 3300 miles on it, and the dingleberry that had it before me decided it would be best to take the HU and sub with him when he sold it..

Well, you know how the saying goes, you can take the MP3 out of the MP3, but you can't take the..................well I guess you can.

LOL yea thats tru...when this audio setup is done I willl still be bumping with the best of them...I'm even thinkin about usin my other hobby (computers) to build me a lil micro-ATX box for the trunk..Prally have like 20,000 mp3s on it....

Why bother, Kenwood music Keg can hold 30 gigs worth of MP3, wav or windows media files plus others per cartridge. It only takes up as much space as two capacitors.

Cuz I am silly and like to build computers...also if I use a micro-atx setup I could probably get that same size..for probably cheaper....People stuff micro ATX computers is freakin old NES cases.....I will proably never build it..since the box I am building will probably take.... oh lets seee..about forever? since I have never built one, never used fiberglass, and want to make it absolutely perfect..

I would reccomend build the 2 boxes in wood first and use them to test to make sure it sound like you want it to before you start with any glass.
