Hi Everyone,

I'm interested in purchasing a 2007 Mazdaspeed6 and have started to do some preliminary searching on the internet and local dealerships. The problem so far is that my local market doesn't have any available (at least I haven't found any yet). I've checked autotrader and found some across Canada at various price points. There were a couple in Southern Ontario (I'm in Manitoba) that might be worth a look.

What I'd like some advice with is how to go about checking out a car that's 2000km away. Other than seeing the pics on autotrader and contacting the owner for a history, what should I do so I don't waste a trip? I'd like to think the seller would be honest but what are some good questions to ask regarding the Speed6 and what pics should I ask for? I've heard S. Ont cars can have some severe rust issues due to all the salt they use in the winter.

I know there have been some issues with the car, but I'm hoping to find a low mileage car that has been taken care of.

I've searched this forum as best I can but have not been able to find the info I need. Any one with this kind of experience would be of great help to me.

Thanks

Certainly question the owner about any smoking issues out of the tailpipe (stock K04 is known for it's poor seals/poor PCV system as a whole). I would suggest looking for a car that has had the clutch TSB performed. Ask the owner if the transfer case leaks which they probably won't know. Any differential issues? What's been replaced (gives an idea about the overall health of the car in my opinion)

Unfortunately, there isn't really a substitue for checking it out for yourself. That way you can get underneath it, drive it, observe smoking yourself if its there. Good luck!
