Suby WRX . . . More potential than the speeds???

Do WRX's have more reliable potential than our cars???

The speeds seem to top out at around 310ish safely (depending on dyno). Thats about the max you can achieve with with full bolt ons and a tune. Anything more requires a big turbo which is risky in this car.

I would be happy with a reliable 350.

I know WRX's can reach 400 with a FMIC, tune, fueling upgrade, intake, exhaust, green turbo, and cams. Thats about 3500-4000 bucks if you get some parts used. Frankly thats too much money / power for me. At that level your dealing with burning through clutches , mounts, axles, etc.

What do you guys think?

I think the WRX is definitely more reliable when modded...

Plus High HP FWD <<<<<< High HP AWD...

The WRX has some pretty beefy capabilities from the factory. As long as you don't go overboard, you can squeeze a few extra horses out of one and have it still maintain reliability.

Despite being quirky (and loud on occasion), those 2.5s are very solid.

Depends on your definition of potential. A WRX is easier to get to the levels you are looking at, yes. However if you're planning on tearing it down and fully rebuilding everything then it doesn't matter too much which platform you start with. Depends on what your goals are though.

My question is what is the point of a FWD car with over 300whp unless it's a dedicated track car that runs slicks or near slicks all the time? Then if it is a dedicated track car why would you want to use a station wagon as your starting platform? A coupe or even sedan is going to be more rigid.

Yeah well the suby is AWD like the mazda but its not quite as heavy so its more rewarding when you mod.

Im definately not looking at doing any internal work. My goal is 350-400. Seems like that can be done with 3 grand safely and reliably.

Just FYI im thinking about trading in my speed. Weighing the pro's and con's. I love how the speed 6 looks, the interior blows the subaru away, more space. The thing is im young so comfortable seats is not something I care too much about. I am starting med school next year though so I don't want something thats going to be questionable every morning when I start it up.

Just to play devils advocate... why would you dump a bunch of money into a car if you're going to have med school bills to pay?

I won't beat around the bush /:. Both my parents are docs and they have money. No loans for me.

lol must be nice :p

but if you want more power safely go with the suby. what yr u looking at?
