Steve went new car shopping today...

We won't know much more til the order guides come out in Nov. The 5.0 will be the GT motor, not a high end motor. They're not going to run with 3 motors for two trim levels. V6 will have the 3.7 and the GT will have the 5.0. GT500 is getting either a 5.8 S/Ced or possibly a TT 5.0 (which is code named 'Road Runner') in 2012.

Also, there's been a lot of talk on several Mustang forums from people 'in the know' that the price increase in 2010 was made to help soften the blow for the 2011. It will go up, but theres not much room to wiggle if they want to stay competitive.

Even so (I have heard there are 3 motors, rumors though as anything is right now) 36k for a Mustang GT is retarded... No matter how you look at it that is expensive for that car, period!

I gotta agree especially as someone who once bought a brand new stang for $13K out the door. Unless Ford puts and all aluminum motor with forced induction, mid 30s pricing is a bit too steep.

For that price what's to keep those same power-thirsty folks from just buying a 135i instead? 3.5L V6 twin turbo with BMW engineering and amazing handling? I think I know what I'd spend my 35k on.

Don't forget where we live! We see Mustangs everywhere, including all the new prototype and test cars. It's hard not to want some good ol fashioned muscle in modern day clothes!

If I lived up there I'd probably buy a SS Camaro on impulse and kick myself when your Soviet-like Winter sets in.

Exactly!! That's why there's a pretty interesting ratio of Mustang buyers here in the metro-Detroit area.

40% are purchased in GT trim or higher - and are also garaged in winter. (These guys think they are faster than everyone and get fairly upset when our "Japanese" cars keep up or pull on them)

50% are purchased with V6's. They like the "look" without needing the power, or basically thought they'd be just fine in the winter since it's not a full-bore Mustang. Wrong.

10% are enthusiasts without the finances for a winter-beater and will basically drive the car, regardless of weather.

Those arn't proven statistics, just my own guess.

St. Louis doesn't get a lot of snow, but we get several ice storms throughout the winter that will cripple anything that's not either FWD or AWD.

Even when we get snow they don't clean the roads well. That's why I had to get rid of my 330i. I couldn't get to the office in the winter.

Well, it's nothing that a good set of winter tires couldn't handle - but it's not easy with that kind of car in the winter. You end up raping your clutch having to drag on it so the torque doesn't overwhelm the conditions.

Although 35k is a lot of money, it's right on par or ahead of comparible cars in the segment. If people want to sit and have the stigma that a Mustang is an inferior car for that price, that's your opinion. Go look at one and see what options are available for that price. You're seeing things that are class leading and firsts for the 'pony car' class.

And, after A-plan, that car is looking at $31k after TTL. I'll take a $5000 price cut and walk away happy.

Well, $31k minus another down payment of $6000, and you're going to have a loaded GT Mustang for less than your MS6 hehe.

But, the rest of the country doesn't always qualify for A-plan, hence leaving less reasons to pick a "muscle" car over an equally-equipped, equally-priced, more versatile vehicle.

Not quite. When I bought the MS6, I paid $20,800 after TTL.

And yes, people qualify for A-plan, but in other parts of the country, it's much less prevalent than we see in the Metro area.

At this time I'm not worrying about a car, I went to look and see what was available and price out some options.

No matter how you look at it it is a $600 a month payment (not including your insurance hike) and the idea that they dont make a snow tire that will control a 500hp rwd car so having a second vehicle will be a must. I know you like them, that is cool, but they are priced ridiculously for honestly what they are. They are not a BMW, STI, EVO or anything comparable in that price range.

So, for comparison, build a similar 335, G37, or 370z. I would be willing to bet they'll be even more expensive than the Mustang is.

I plan on putting enough down to bring the payment back down too. A-plan is a decent chunk off, and they're offering incentives, and will most likely be doing that next year too.

And yes, I'd most likely get a winter beater. Hopefully a truck of some kind.

Just an FYI, there's a 2006 Z06 with less than 10,000 on the odometer for $25,000 on autotrader...

Wow, that's a killer deal! Another car I wouldn't mind having down the road, especially if it's not my DD.
