also, willing to trade for .20 over forged pistons and/or rods can put cash on my end but have to be .20 over.

What's the difference between this one and the FC? I guess what I'm asking is what is the reason for retarding the timing (what does it gain me)? why spend a little more for that ability and did you use it at all?

that price is a bit steep, i picked mine up w/ 5k miles for 300, just an FYI. and if you decide to lower price i may be interested as my unit has since fried, my fault though.

honestly, I would never buy one. The only way to make power is to advance timing. The only time you would need to retard timing is like midway through the powerband. But the stock ECU does that already. Other than that, you would need to retard timing in top end if going for crazy amounts of boost to prevent knock. But more than likely, you would have a standalone to take care of that. The afc and ftc are ok for stock to full bolt on cars to an extent. But I wouldn't trust a piggyback with my timing even if it is just retard. We have all experienced inconsistent results at one point or another with the afc. I wouldn't want to experience those same results with timing. That's just my .02. By the way, Im not trying to steer anyone away from buying this. Just simply answering a question. They are both great units for the money and if you don't have big build plans. But once you get to a certain point, it will be time to upgrade to a more capable EMS.

so i guess do i need the FTC is my question or is the AFC good enough for the same price? I mean I just want to put 220, 230 hp to the wheels. I"m running a 3" pope down pipe, a 3" exhaust that necks down to 2.5" at the axle. FMIC with 2.5" piping. And I have a datalogging capable AFR Gauge. So I only wanted the AFC so that I could tune it once I get a gt28rs and bigger injectors to reach my goal of 220-230 whp.

for bolt ons and a decent build, not full forged and crazy injectors and whatnot, this unit works great. I ran a turboback exhaust, hiboost manifold, turbonetics external wastegate, fmic, water meth, and a gt2871r .64 at 10 pounds and made somewhere between 250-300whp. i am flexible on the price. send me offers.

do you half to use the timing on this or can you just set it to 0 and it not bother mess with it?

if you are going to do that, you might as well spend less and pick up a used SSAFC. No need to buy something if you aren't going to use all the features.

i can get this cheaper than a new ssafc but i do not need the timing.

used afc's sale around $250. I didn't say anything about buying one new. I just don't think it's a smart move. I mean it's cool to have that feature if you were to plan on using it later down the road, But if you have no intentions on using the feature, it's a waste of money. Why pay extra for something that you aren't going to use? It's like someone buying a full standalone just to control fuel and nothing else...lol. But it's your money.

used ssafc goes for like 200-250 on here
This isn't just the ssafc, its the FTC. retarding timing is helpful to properly tune if you don't have the cash to go full stand alone. I paid $500 for this used 2 years ago. Again, I'm open to offers. It's just sitting around and its drift season, I need $$ for tires and parts for my e30! Best offer takes it

nah i was talking to the other guy who doesnt really need the timing, this unit should go to someone whos got more of a build.
