Speed 6 vs. WRX STI

ya its true, but i was told it wasnt goin to be called evo... somthing else dont remember what though, the new Gen is called X or Evo 10.. i think
 
A good comparo would be the Speed6 to the 05+ Legacy GT.

I was driving my in-laws after we did some tinkering on it and what luck I happeded upon a black cherry mica Speed6.

It was a close race, I edged him out by a fender to 75. then we had to slow down.

Their STI would have chewed the Speed6 up and spit it out.

Those Subies are no joke.

Lgt has has a COBB Catted Down Pipe, Greddy SP2 cat back and COBB AccessPort with a Stage 2 map. About 300 or so at the crank and 325 TQE. The STI has an APS turbo back ECUTEK custom tune by Rich at Dynocomp and Meth Injection to combat detonation. 310whp and 345wtqe.

I am going to try and get the LGT, and their STI and some Speed6's to come out to Firebird in PHX to see how they all stack up against each other.
 
Which car were you driving to edge the Speed6? Was it modded?

Winning by a fender can vary...it could be a real win, meaning both drivers drove at their max, or it could be one of the didnt drove as good as the other....like say, maybe you couldve driven a bit better and pull a rear bumper on him, or maybe vice-versa. Unless you pull half a car or a lenght, they car isnt necessarily faster than the other....I pulled a nose on MS6Mike when we raced for example...he had a CAI, i didnt.

I was driving the LGT Wagon.

I did not launch like I would have if I knew he was going to go. He actually pulled half a car off the line. I caught up and them passed before I let off and he kept going.

If I was in the STI I doubut I would ahve seen him again. That car is just a different animal.

I understand on the driver thing but he was definately on it.

I want to get some of the AZ Speed6 guys out to the track to compare them to both a modded LGT Wagon and a Modded STI.

Do you know what mods were on the speed6? did it sound loud (as in a turbo back or cat back exhaust?)

You just said the Legacy has a catted down pipe, a cat back exhaust and the cobb access port with stage 2?

Chances are the speed6 only had a CAI and DP at most, and I doubt he had a tune....

Could not hear anything out of the norm on the 6.

BTW the LGT is an Auto.

I am not trying to knock the speed6. it is a great car, just offering a "real" experience I had with one on the street. Most likely the Speed6 was stock did not sound like it had anything. But I can not hear much over the rumble in the LGT.

I just think theyare different animals. The torque curve on turbo Subie motor is so flat. Both cars go like a ***** ape. I would love to run a Speed6 that has similar mods to the Wagon. Should be a close one.
 
The MS6 is very restricted and it shows on the simple mods. A catless DP is the mod that does the most gains...then the exahust. CAIs dont do much unless its cold. For all that stuff you had on the LGT and pulling a fender on a stock MS6 is actually not bad (for the MS6). Granted, I think the 06/07 STI stock is faster than a stock MS6, but I guess if you add a TBE to both, the MS6 would be closer since it reacts better to gains than the STI (exhaust system wise though).

I know MS6Mike ran an 07 STi with CAI, TBE, BOV, uppipe and tuned and he had CAI, TBE, BOV, not tuned but boosting 17psi instead of 15.6psi (MS6 stock psi). And the STI got him by a rear bumper. Same thing happened against an EVO with unknown mods. Granted, I think the modding capabilities of the MS6 are way way more limited than the STi/EVO's for obvious reasons, but mod for mod, the MS6 reacts better. Also, have in consideration the STi had an uppipe and tune.
 
I have yet to see a modded Speed 6 out at the track to see what it can actually do, in person.

The LGT is the same way. The DP is a huge restriction. There are 3 cats in that thing. The stock exhaust plumbing at the Y in the back is like 2" maybe.

When I get back from Vaca in July I am going to try and get some Speed6 folks to head out to the strip with me to see how the 2 cars stack up when both drivers are going after it.

Would also like to see how the LGT stacks up against a modded STI. Should be some good good stuff.

GOOD GRAVY miss daisy!!!

my friend (a subaru tuner in west palm) says the CAI is the worst thing for a WRX.... cause it throws off the MAF.... but you did say THAT specific WRX STI was tuned..... but anyone just throwing a CAI on a WRX will actually slow the car down :(

Correct.

A panel filter is good enough until you upgrade the turbo. Both the LGT and STI I am talking about are still running the stock filter and air box.
 
seems to be the same way with the MS6. Ask mike, I beat him stock vs CAI lol :D

Blustreak, MS6Mike did an 12.85@105 with his current mods at 17psi (except the BOV, didnt have it back then), like i said above. We were running low/mid 13s consistently until we broke the differential on the 10th-15th run (yes, the track was pretty much empty lol). The STi/Subarus have more experience building AWD/Turbo vehicles and are definately stronger and able to take a harder beating than the MS6.

Yep, it's a Syclone, and yes it's modded. He hardly ever drives it. Stock those things run the qtr in 13 flat, I'm not sure what he's got done to it or what he has run at the track. AFAIK, his 1st Gen is his fastest car, followed by the Truck, then the EVO cuz it's stock.
