Speakers on hatch cover on P5

X-wing..lol. That reminds me of when I won my life sized Yoda. I had him seatbelted in the backseat, I got all kinda looks from people on the interstate. I like those seats. I may have to look into the sub install in the rear door hatch.

The main thing is tweets in are car. people call my car a concert hall. you can listen to anything in it. i have audiobahn door speakers in everydoor w/ removable tweets. I also ripped out that stock tweeter and popped in some x-audio 250watt tweets. One set of tweets is mount in the pillars where the seatbelts are, so when your seats are leaned back enough it right next to you an anyone in the back still hears it.

Why on earth would you want a tweeter right next to your ear? That would totally screw up the sound stage pulling everything to one side.

When I'm in a concert hall I try not to sit right next to the guy holding the cymbals..but that's just me.

You want the sound coming from the front as though the concert is on your hood. Every other speaker besides the front ones should be for sound fill. Even your subs should really be up front but thats impractical unless you have a rear engine car.

correct but the sound drowns on the way back and this provide that surrouond sound effect ans give a nice sound for those in the back or the car 3 cars back

i don't know what concerts you guys go to, but the ones i go to don't have noise only coming from in front of me. it usually sounds like it is surrounding me, although im usually standing right up front next to the stage...i have never understood why you would want the music to only come from the front...plus, who decided that music is supposed to sound like a concert? if it is sound quality then i would think you would want to hear it like it is on a cd since that is usually better quality then a concert...

If your only used to Rap/rock concerts then you definitly haven't experienced a concert as it is ment here.
Think acoustic, jazz club, ect. Its not just definingly loud. Its ment to sound crisp clear and comfortable.

Exactly, like on a cd. Front right and front left. CDs have no music music recorded for rear.

SQ is decided by IASCA and other competition organizations. However what individuals prefer will always be different.

Keep in mind though that speakers up high in the back like that will always easily over p[ower the front speakers and make all sound seem to be behind you. It will not be even. Also it cost alot less to just make the front better then to make the front and rear better.

thats wat i love about my car. no matter what yo music you listen to it sounds good. mp3 is right about the 6x9. have oyu ever heard those show cars with tons of nonsense speakers everywhere they sound horrible when your in them. put ok when you open the doors because they want to pull you to the car.

Alright then. looks like this is what we've all been missing out on. I call for sony 6x9's for everyone. Everyone on this board had no excuse not to run them. And he with the biggest amp pushing them wins. I say we should do a group buy.

even when music is only coming from the front, its not like im standing in my house staring at the speakers, you move around so the music isn't always in front of you anyways. I don't listen to rap at all and have never been to a concert so i dunno, most of the music i listen to isn't just loud and the concerts are crisp, but it still sounds like music is coming from everywhere not just the front...

First off, its all a matter of preference.

With that said, yes, your front speakers should be your primary speakers, and should be louder than anything else. At a concert hall (not talking stadium here) the musicians are in front of you but we all know that a hall with good acoustics will have plenty of reverb. You're not going to get this in a car. Good news is that its already there on the recording! You just need a small amount of rear fill to make it come out. If you run 100 watts up front, 25 watts to the rear is more than enough.

Now there is huge difference between low powered rear fill and placing tweeters right next to your ears. I'm sure the people who raved about your system were sitting in the back seat cause I'm sure it sounded good from there. But personally I don't give a s*** about back seat passengers...I rarely have them, and I paid for my system so I want it to sound good for me (and possibly the person sitting shotgun). Its not worth sacrificing the staging and imaging of the front passengers so the rear passengers can hear a little more treble.

I guarantee you will never see a car in a competition with tweeters above the seatbelts (demo vans excluded cause they will shove as much crap in them as possible).

i understand that the front speakers should be the loudest...they are in my car as well and i agree that they sound better that way, but people are so anti backseat sound its incredible...

i was just saying that i believe you can still have excellent quality with some sound coming out of the back...

plus, who said that bass can be in the back because its omnidirectional? i decided i would really listen to the sound today and see how good my was...its ok, but i could definatly tell the bass was coming from the back, no matter where i put the sub, you can still tell that its in the back.

If you have a sub and the bass comes from the back there could be one of several things wrong with your system:

1) Too much rattling (high pitches that correspond to bass hits that automatically draw the sound backwards)
2) Your low-pass crossover is set incorrectly
2a) If it is too high, voices get muddy and drawn back
2b) If it is too low, there is a gap between the front speakers and the bass coming from the rear. The bass becomes seperated.
3) If the front stage doesn't play low enough, or cannot play low enough you are forced to make your sub perform some of the mid-bass duties which are not omni-directional. 4" or 5.25" mids are not enough to bring the bass up front. (excluding the 5" subwoofer made by Focal). A 6.5" driver with 100watts of power is all that is necessary.
4) There is simply too much bass, the gain is set improperly
5) You only listen to music with synthesized bass (rap hip-hop pop) which has no overtones in the mid-bass.
6) Phasing. Try swapping the pos and neg leads for the sub. The results can be amazing.

Actually he is right about the bass. Generally it seems to come from all over in my system. Although if i put my head towards the rear i can tell that the bass orginates in the rear. Also regarding the 6x9's they were to be for the rear seat drivers since my rear speakers or so poorly powered...25x2 from HU. But as i have considered the true needs for sql i have decided that front mounted tweeters would make more sense. Unless i powered the rears significantly i wouldnt hear them up front and if they did have alot of power it woudl throw things off a bit. The tweeters mounted by the sunshades in the top corners would make up for the loss of highs when people are in the car...next to the speakers. Eitehr way i am trin to figure out where to put the amp for the tweeters....i am out of room on the back of my back seat..any suggestions

yeah i am a hypocrite....sue me

trust me the twets are not oveer powerful the powerful ones are in the front i replaced te stock ones. i hate te drowning effect of bass i want to hear the words but i like the bass.

In fact just today i have some sinatra and a friend of mnes mom said it sounded like franks was right there i felt proud.

Don't get Sound Quality (sq) mixed up with Structured Query Language (sql) and Sound Pressure Level (spl). :)

See issue #4 in my post above.

ive been wondering where to put my front speaker amp as well, i really don't want to put it in the trunk and have wires goin all that distance...im thinking of putting it under one of the seats, although i was planning to put a computer and ps2 under each seat and im not sure if there will be enough room for an amp too...
if you arn't putting anything else under your seat, that could be a god place...
Steve

there isnt much room under the seats...a 40x2 amp might fit but it would be tight...but there is also another reason why this is bad....if it gets spilled on ....say goodbye to your equip....i had this happen to me once and i melted big holes in my right channel speakers...i will look into it more...although if u can the back seat is a good place...thats where my amps are and they fold down for easy access

Going back to the original post... We added 6.5" coaxials to the rear deck of my friend's VW Golf GTi and it doesn't rattle. Their deck is basically like ours.. maybe a little thicker, but I've never really layed them down side by side to compare. VW's are pretty well built.. it was a pain to do an audio install in that car.
