OK,So I was at the track on Fri. Night(pics and numbers soon to come!)and a guy from a local turbo shop came up ane was talking to me about my MSP when we were discussing my performance probs with my MSP since I got the new motor and GUESS WHAT!

He showed me how our wastegates our adjustable and that he thinks my probs with my new motor being slower is due to the fact that the dealer either opened my wastegate silghtly or never adj. it right to begin with !He said that from what we talked about, that my wastegate is not closing fully which is causing my boost not to increase above 5PSI!I have checked this with a boost gauge and all I'm getting is 5PSI!So I'm about 2PSI short and I still ran a 15.2@89 1/4 mi. on fri. This would explain my slower "SPOOL UP" times and the fact that i'm running slower than with the old motor which was a beast in stock form!So now I need to do some research on how to adj. the wastegate properly so that it closes fully so that i don't get any leaks and so i can get the full boost out the turbo on the stock set-up!

Anyone got some input on this!?!?

Yes, whoever you were speaking to is right.
When my car was at Magnus, Marco said the same thing.
The only probem, is trying to get a it. Very difficult location.

I thought you were getting alot more then just a slower response.
You mentioned a whole slew of issues before with the new engine.

I WAS HAVING A WHOLE SLEW OF PROBLEMS?

Most of my problems have either worked themselves out or I have gotten used to the quirks of the new motor.I still have an exhaust leak at the D/P (which i will take care of when I put on my new D/P).not gettiing full boost and the motor is still a little noisier than it should be IMO.Other than that the motor has come in pretty nicely, now if I can just get these issues ,along with the wastegate issue taken care of,I think I can get this car into the 14's completely STOCK!Very few guys have pulled a 14 sec. 1/4 mi. and I want to be one of them!I only need to drop .2 tenths and I am there!I only neede to drop .1 thenth on the first motor but oh well,I'll get it!

Sounds like the noisy engine is probably from the exhuast leak then. Good to know everything is coming out for the better for you.
You may have to change your sig soon :D.

YES! YES?

I've been meaning to change my sig for a while now but I always forget or run out of time!Oh Well ,One Day!;)

OH,BTW....

A lot of my noise is coming from the exhaust leak and I'm sure that leak isn't helping performance none either. We will soon find out! HAHA!

I had an exhuast leat at the downpipe and it was actualy cuasing me to stall.

Just FYI- the dealer doesn't adjust the rod, it comes pre-adjusted to a set length. Although it is possible, I highly doubt they would setup a wastegate actuator to hold the flapper partially open, but who the hell knows :). Also, if you tighten this rod much to adjust the boost you run the risk of boost creep due to the flapper not opening as much and not flowing enough exhaust gasses out **this is right from Robert from Forced Performance**- if you want to adjust the boost you should either go with a boost controller of some sort or a heavier springed wastegate. You could probably get a couple of PSI out of it, but I wouldn't go too much more. Be sure to check that it is actually holding the flapper open before you adjust it too- I am curious.

The slow spool you have is partially because with no type of boost controller, there is constantly pressure going through the line to the actuator once you start to produce boost- with such a light spring, the gate starts to open early wich causes a slower spool.. I would bet that the gate actually starts to crack open as low as 1-2 psi. A boost controller restricts boost before it hits the actuator also creating faster spool up.

Then again, what do I know  ....
Joe
PS- You are not the only one with 5psi. They say 6.9 peak boost which means that someone somewhere on a cold day will probably spike to 6.9 psi for a bit.

Just curious- mine has some crap on it that looks like JB weld to prevent people from tampering with it. Does yours?
Joe

Just looked at it and mine has that same s*** on it. Also looks like someone went over it with wax to prevent tampering.

Yup, another reason to just manipulate the boost signal than to adjust the rod.. Unless you don't care about the warranty :).
Joe

NO,NO!

I'm not trying to raise my boost pressure higher than it is supposed to be by adj. the wastegate!I just want to make sure that the wastegate is adj. properly so I know that i'm gettin the full boost that it is supposed to from the factory. It may be adj. correctly buti'm not soo sure?I am doing a boost controller (i actually already ordered it)a hallman.(not by any means dogging yours kwiktsi)i just want the adjustability and the nice looks.
BTW,my adj rod does not have the jb weld on it you are referring to . It looks like it never did either, maybe its because its a replacement turbo?I DUNNO?

I just wanted to add one to get some decent milage on my way to work everyday.
