Solstice On Its Way To Dealerships

The first truckload of 2006 Pontiac Solstice vehicles are loaded onto a car carrier at the Wilmington (Delaware) Assembly Plant destined for dealerships Wednesday, August 3, 2005. The much anticipated Solstice was first shown as a concept vehicle at the North American International Auto Show in 2002 by General Motors Vice Chairman Bob Lutz.
<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->I went to Waktins Glen, NY last weekend and came home on the 3rd. I saw 5 car carriers on the NY Thruway and 2 carriers on the Mass pike with Solstices . Damn I wish my camera didn't crapout on me.

I'm having a hard time deciding on keeping the pro and pay it off in 2yrs or trading it in and getting one of these. I keep saying wait until theyve been out a yr so the aftermarket will catch up.

Keep the Pro and pay it off. Get one of these puppies in 2 years, it is almost certain this car will have problems in the first year, as with every other 1st year car.

That is exactlly what I keep telling myself. Points to you for being smart.

Curb Weight: 2860 lbs
Layout: Front-Engine/RWD
Transmission: 5-Speed Manual
Engine
Type: Inline-4
Displacement: 2400 cc
Horsepower: 170 bhp @ 6400 rpm
Torque: 170 lb-ft @ 4400 rpm

So, same power as the NC MX-5 and close to 400 pounds heavier?
No thanks, I'll take the Mazda.

Pretty good looking for a Pontiac I do admit.

in the 1/4 mile 400lbs = about 4 tenths of a sec. Not that big of a deal. Plus this is the same engine that is in the TC Sion. Those engines can and do run over 300whp on the stock parts. There was a 600whp TC at the heatwave car show here. No miata can tough thoughs numbers.

The engine is no relation to the Scion. It's a 2.4L EcoTech, similar to the Cobalt engine.

I don't care abuot the extra weight. When the GXP model comes out all will be right in the world.

mmm a turbo charged GXP will be definately worth looking into.

What's the BFD with this car?

Just get an NC Miata and wait for Flyin' Miata turbo/supercharger kits to come out. They'll be getting sick numbers with the new motor.

Where's your brand loyalty Private Pyle??!! (puke) [/R Lee Ermey] (usa) (fight) (headbang)

That silly rant over-- competition is good-- I'm glad Pontiac came out with this. Just not personally too crazy about it from what I've seen. Await showdowns with the new Miata.

Very long day, should have been sleeping not typing. LOL

I didn't mean that the engine would be the same size, more like the same kind of engine. So hopfully if will be as strong. And what is this GXP you keep talking about? The Grand Prix?

All Pontiac models get a high performance model with the GXP designation. The Solstice is no exception.
