Should I buy or wait? Where are prices going?

Should I wait to buy a MS6 or is now a good time? I notice the prices are going down quickly and I even found a few lightly used examples (around 6k miles) for close to $22K. The local dealer even offered 7k off the price of a GT with Nav and leather. I figure with a decent downpayment and trading in my Mazda3 hatchback it should workout to be a good deal. I'll be keeping my Mazdaspeed Protege so I'll have something to tinker with until mods for the MS6 reaches the aftermarket. Besides I figure if the MS6 flops in the aftermarket the MS3 (which is the sport compact media darling rightnow) will have compatible parts. I had the chance to drive both cars and the MS3 hatch is SCARY fast and more hardcore than the MS6. I'm leaning toward the MS6 because I need a larger car for the family (baby on the way!) and most of my daily drive is on the highway. I like the feel of a bigger highway cruiser compared the stoplight racer feel of the MS3. I can't think of a reason not to get the MS6 and it seems like and awesome value.

It all depends. The prices will slowly drop as the 06 models are now officially used, so the moment you drive it off the lot it depreciates massively, which is why the deals are so good now. You really aren't gonna save a whole lot more, and you could end up not getting a color of your choice, ect ect. I'd say 7k off the GT with NAV is a pretty good deal. Just make sure you wanna keep this car for a long time, because with these great deals comes the reality that the market and trade in value is gonna be horrible in the future. The Speed 3 will retain it's value much better, so even though you can get a Speed 6 for the same price, you will lose out on that money down the road.

Like I said before, make sure you will keep the car for at least 5 years if you take advantage of the Speed 6. Good luck!! :)

Oh yeah, I plan on keeping this car for a long time. I was offered several times by two WRX owners to trade my MSP for thier cars and I couldn't understand why until recently. I just love the feeling that comes from knowing you can drive down the highway and not come across another of the same car. I think I see about 1 MS6 a week and it's usually the same ones.

Thats roughly what i got two dealers down to, on an MS6 GT. Got em to $26k out the door.....

Id say do what u can now before your options are limited even more. Not too many MS6 GT's w/Navi still around.....at least around here in Houston.

Well, I'm a bit confused there by your logic, but oh well. :). I don't see a ton of WRXs very often in my area personally. Perhaps you do. Now Imprezas overall (all 5 trim different levels) I see more often that's for sure. I certainly see a lot more Mazda 6 vehicles then I do Imprezas, so I actually feel less exclusive then I did with my STI.

I wish I could share your feeling, but I can't. The fact is, this is still a Mazda 6, and I see tons of cars that look like mine every single day. I don't get that feeling at all with upgraded trim versions of a mass production car. I never got that feeling in my STI, but then again I don't need to. It's still not as common as an Altima, Camry, or Accord. :) I do see a few Speed 6s from time to time though, but not as much as I saw STI's when I had mine. :)

Now my S2000, which is an exclusive original built car, and not an upgraded version of a common base vehicle, now that I enjoy being exculsive, and get that feeling that you desribe with your Protege, because it truly is exclusive, being that it's a one trim only, low production vehicle. :) I'd get a Speed 6 ASAP, before you miss your chance. The Mazda 6 is a great car, and owning the top of the line is always the way to go. Enjoy. :)

based on availability of speed 6s and the rebates, its in your best interest to move soon. Once the 06s are gone there wont be as much incentives towards purchasing an 07 model.

and MS6S2k, around where I live I see more STIs than Speed 6s. For whatever reason around here there are more WRX and STIs on the road than regular imprezas.

Well yeah of course, the STi has been out for 3 and a half years , and it's a regular trim level, and a huge success, and a lot more have been made and sold. 7216 sold in 2004, almost 10000 sold in 2005 and the same amount in 2006. 2007 has been out for some time now and I'm sure will sell at least 7000 trim models. The WRX and STI sell as much, if not more then the regular base Impreza, so it makes sense, and that should be that way everywhere.

The Mazda 6 as a whole, including all trim levels has far outsold the Impreza since the 2003 model year, so there are simply more Mazda 6s then Imprezas period. That's the point I was making. I don't feel any exclusivity with an upgraded trim of a commonly made vehicle whether it's an Impreza or a 6, so I feel less exclusive in this Speed 6 because there are lots more Mazda 6s on the road, at least where I live. Definitely many more Mazda 6s have sold then Imprezas since 2003, and I'm talking about all trim levels here, because the cars basically all look the same. The Speed 6 is not an original built car, it's an upgraded trim level of a very common car. So is the WRX and STI. ;)

I just went back to the dealer lot today to get my "loss of power" recall done.

They still had some 06 Speed6 on the lot. There was no price difference between what they were stickered and what I paid just after Thanksgiving.
