I haven't actually tried changing the shiftboots...
but cant you just pull up on the cupholder piece, unscrew the shift knob, then unscrew the stock shift boot?
to remove the stock shift boot take off the cupholders and the shift knob.
reach underneath the boot to pull the front/ back/ sides down and out. There are plastic tabs that fit into slits in the boot.
Alternatively, you can remove the entire center console and unscrew the plastic ring that holds the shift boot down, but thats entirely too much work for something so simple.
I never did put up an *official* install page, as there didn't seem to be much need. It looks hard, but is very simple. Follow the steps that these guys told you. The new boot installs just as the old one was. You may need to re-use the plastic ring at the top of your old boot, and hot-glue it to the new boot for a clean install. I don't do this ahead of time to allow more flexibility for different install options/knobs, etc.
Also have to remove the 2 screws that hold the boot down more on the tabs on the front of the boot. It really shouldn't be hard at all. Just line up the slits from the original boot with his and just hook them under the tabs, and replace the screws. Should only take a couple of min.
