Seriously considering.

Seriously considering.

Im seriously considering getting rid of my Speed. I tried the K&N and shes still stumbling like a drunk sailor with two left feet. I paid 20k for a Turbo protg the bucks like a bull at the rodeo, this is ridiculous! I love everything else about the car, but I cant look past the fact that this car runs like a pig. The sad reality is that 3.5k- to 4.5k stumble is right in the middle of the power band, making spirited driving very unpleasant. Maybe Ill have better luck with an RX-8 or STI. Im very disappointed and totally confused on what to do at this point. Anyone else feeling this way about there Mazdaspeed??

But what triggers the higher a/f?
I am thinking maybe FP can make something like they did for the regular protege. The o2 modifier tricks the car into thinking its getting a 14 A/F while th FPR dumps in fuel to get 12.1.
Maybe go backwards. get something to restirct fuel while the car thinks its getting the rich mixture it wants?

Turbowagon, calm yourself my boosted brethern. There will be a fix, from Mazda, shortly. (within the next month or 2.) I believe they have gottne the message, when people started calling, and Email Calloway, and Mazda corporate, and decided not to piss off a major marketing tool, (us enthusiasts who own thier products)

True calling a complaining won't hurt as market response.
However that ECu reprogram has been a promise for over 6 months now.

Im doing my best to be calm about this; however, the only time my car runs the way I think it should is for about 10 minutes in the morning when I first take off. After those 10 dream like minutes the stumbling starts. I love to rev it to the red line, but what I like even better then that is being able to have clean power delivery with out have to dog it to the bone. Its either one extreme or another with my car, theres no mid-point. I can drive like grandma and shift before I hit 3.5k or pound the s*** out of it, right through the stumble. I dont know, I really dont, this sucks.

I hate feeling disappointed with my Speed.

I totaly understand, all the proteges seem to do that, the 10 minutes before the engine drowns itslef in its oun heat it is great!
Even my turbo MP3 does this a bit.

All cars do it to some degree, but the combination of heat & stumble are a speed halting combination. Hey, at least the car handles like a champ, but I dont think thats enough to keep me content..

Kwiktsi..has the cure........

Joe has the cure for your stumbling. Mine is gone!! $25.00
(kwiktsi) Many have already purchased it.

I was cruising down the highway on my way to work this morning, dropped it into 4th to pass a car, my rpm's would NOT go past 3500, so I lifted the foot and hit the gas a few more times....nothing changed. I myself am sick of it too, but i'm not about to take a big it on a car I just got a couple of weeks ago!

I feel ya turbo3wagon!!! Sad part is I took mine in when it was doing this before and they said it was normal!!! (attn)

I know exactly what you mean. the last week or so it has been getting hotter here, and after driving for about 15 minutes or so my car starts running like total s***. No power and very inconsistent jerky acceleration. I have the k&n on it right now, but I think thats coming off, and going back to stock airbox to see if that helps at all. I really don't want to sell it, but if this doesn't get fixed she might be getting sold....... lets go Mazda. Do something

Dude, calm down. All us MSP owners love to drive fast, you just have to have some discipline. Keep your car in a higher gear then you think you should untill you want to pass or race. It seriously works. I keep my car in 5th gear even when driving only 35-40 MPH and only shift it down to 3rd when I need to make a pass, or want to hear the turbo whistle, and it's never failed me. and here in Texas we've been having 90+ days for the last 2 months.

The only time I ever felt the stumble was when I let my fianc drive it for about an hour. She kept it a gear too low the entire time (most of it 75MPH in 4th) and when I got back in the driver's seat 20 minutes later I thought something had broken.

Before you go spending all the money on an RX8 or STI try putting a little investment into your Speed. The K&N filter won't do anything to lower intake temps or adjust the fuel ratio, which seems to be the main causes for this stumble. Getting a front mount intercooler or fuel management system will. Doing a search on either here will provide you with the information you need, and both would be thousands cheaper than getting a new car.

Kwiktsi's fix is for the excessive fuel the car dumps up top while in open loop. I have it, and it helped up top only. The stumble remains with Joes kit, the hood cowling off and K&N in place.

:(

I took my car out after I f*ked up my gauge lens, and it was bucking like a girl on prom night. It seems like it just keeps getting worse the more it gets warmer out. I feel you Turbo, I'm getting really mad as well

FMIC, yes I am considering it but its a $900.00 investment and the results are still undetermined. I know it will run stronger if I get the charge temp to drop, but who can grantee me that the stumble will go away? Im not sure if I will to take that $900.00 plunge on a hunch.
