RX-8 on car and driver!!!

You mean the comparo w/Mustang and Infiniti, right? Car and Driver is now pro-Mazda, I think. Woohoo!

The best recent article on Mazda and the RX-8 was the Novermber? '02 issue in Road and Track. Made me cry when they mentioned the 47 Rotary Warriors (in Japanese: "yonjushichinin no rota-roshi", a wordplay on the legendary true story of The 47 Akoh Warriors who were loyal to the death to their wrongly-executed Lord).

** edit 3/13/03 **
The Road and Track articles on Mazda and the RX-8 is the April 2002 issue.

I'd take either of those cars over the RX-8.
Rotary Warriors, you mean Ronin warriors?

1stMP3, you kidding? I'd ruther take my chances with a made-in-Japan Rotary than with a made-in-the-usa Mustang... If I have the money to get the Infiniti version of the Fairlady, I'd ruther get the Z.

Rotary Warriors, not Ronin. Ronin refers to samurai that were either downsized/layed off (seriously) or whose Lords were eliminated (usually brought down by accusations of treason or were involved in other illegal activities) by the Tokugawa gov't.

1) The Chushingura (House of Loyalty) is a true story of 47 samurai (around their time samurai could be compared to executive officers of a corporation) whose lord was wrongly and unjustly forced to commit seppuku (i.e. execution). They came to be called the "Yonjushichinin no Ako-Roshi" where:
Yonjushichinin = 47
no = of
Ako-Roshi = Lord Ako's Servants

2) Taking a wordplay on that there were 47 engineers in Mazda who fought tooth and nail and spent their own time and money on continued development of the Rotary until Ford relented (damn Ford, they almost killed it). Hence these 47 came to be called in Mazda history as the "Yonjushichinin no Rota-Roshi", a wordplay on the legendary loyalty of the original 47.

Ask any Japanese person of 1) above and they will know. It is part of their culture.

Now do you still want to drive that Ford Mustang????

Yeah, didn't you see that movie with Robert DeNiro?
Ronin - 1998

If you haven't there are are like 3 killer chase scenes involving an Audi S8, A BMW 5 series, and several French cars I don't remember. It was directed by John Frankenheimer, the guy who did the first of the BMW films.

THE BEST car chase scene put on film IMO...I know the one in 'The French Connection' was good and all, but to see an S8 in action was well worth the price of the DVD. I watch it once every couple of months...

Chuyler there's a whole thread on the best car movie and the movie "Ronin" was one of them. As a story it was stupid but I agree the car chase scenes down the narrow european bricklaid roads were just incredible. eye popping.

Why did they even include the Rustang in that test?

You have to respect the engine in that car, at least in terms of HP, but that's it. Sorry, but i hate mustangs.

Now, can I have my next car in that blue color the infiniti was? Purdy

If you read the artical, Mustang handled better then even the car and driver boys thought it could.
As for liking it better then the RX-8, I am stick of cars that have to stay at high rpms to stay out of there own way.
I already looked at the Infinity and test drove it even it seemed terrible on mid range performance. The RX-8 I just don't like the looks of. Its track manner will undoubtly be better then the others but I am never going to go to the track and autocross.
No to mention I don't hate mustangs becuase alot of other people like them. I know there build quality and it is a hell of alot better then the last RX-7.

Name me a $34K production car that can outrun the mustang used in that test.
Obviously the Mustang can never out handle the RX-8. It can be made better with some suspension mods but you simply can't make a car thats 1000 Ibs heavy be as nimble. And you knwo what? I am fine with that. To have a factory car that is only $34K do 0-100 in under 20 seconds, with full warrenty and have it be a very competent handler to boot. I'm in love, Unfortunitly insurance companies will never let me have it.

Define technology
Is it turbo, that s hardly technology difference considering the mustang have a supersharger.
How about lighter materials. Could do an aluminum engine but good luck getting it as strock as the mustangs for any decent price. Fuel injection is no new concept.
So what is this technology?
You want technology, get a Prius! You want a damn fast car get the mustang. You want a competent handling, turbocharged car that has an incredible amout of potential, buy my car for $13K :D

I can name a couple, but one that I'm in love with is the Trans Am. It'll kill the Mustang and it too is under 34,000. So there is one.

A trans am won't beat the mustang in the comparison man, that wasn't a BS GT it was the supercharged SVT Cobra, 0-60 in 4.6 seconds. 1/4 mile in 12.9 seconds. Not to metnion even C&D was amazed by the handling, they were just pussy to push it on the road.

Nothing unusual atleast. (drinks)

Speaking of starting things, its about time I go harass some MSPers about the
neon being faster, God thats fun.
(rofl)

Actually it does, for you see it has the same engine as the camaro and the corvette, the ls-1. That is of course the better than the ls-6 engine. And until it was '98 it beat the corvette till they had to detune the trans am because it wasn't supposed to beat the corvette. But please don't take this to heart, I'm not trying to start any trouble.

I don't get al huffy about talking cars, thats why I'm on the board in the first place. So worry not for me.
I am well aware that the Trans am has the Ls-1, I also like the Trans am alot. Those double nostrals are BAD ASS. However i have yet to see it post better numbers then this mustang, any links to a stats page perhaps?
