...so...I'm thinking I've got a rod knocking. Could just need a valve adjustment, but it's not a tick. It's a solid metallic clack-clack at idle, increases with rpms, and is only on one cylinder.
My issue isn't WHAT it is, my issue is replacement.
Checked the how-to sticky and found nothing. Checked the search function and found SOME info, but couldn't find a definitive answer...so I ask.
Must I pull the motor to replace the rod bearings? I've owned cars previously and worked on other's cars where all that was needed was to drop the oil pan and you had access to the rod bearings. What's the deal with the protege? Can it be fixed in the bay, or would it be easier to just pull the motor.
...I really don't want to pull the motor, cause if I do it's getting a full rebuild...no point in pulling a motor and NOT rebuilding it right? It's already out of the car. But that means being without my daily until I can get it built.
I don't need a project...just a fix.
