I hammered the throttle this weekend and it felt like full boost didn't kick in from the turbo until 3rd gear. Does anyone know if the boost is cut like on the Mazdaspeed 3, and if it is, is there a chip or some way to get full boost all the time?
Sure it is. Traction control with the Rollover stability will kill your performance anyway and you can not shut off that RSV or whatever Ford calls it.
gives 100% throttle through most of the rpm range about 2K or so, where the Mazda ECU program restricts throttle. What the CPE site does not explain is whether the throttle lag has been reduced, or is there still a time lag before you get any throttle response.
You should be aware that dethrottling a FWD or F/AWD vehicle with a HIGH HP/Torque engine is a very important SAFETY issue. Applying too much engine torque to the front "driven" wheels can TOO quickly lead to a serious accident resulting from loss of directional control itself arising from loss of traction inadvertent from wheelspin/slip.
Not too many years ago it was thought, common knowledge, that about 200HP would be the limit for FWD cars due to this danger/HAZARD.
Now the "FIX" is in.
Nowadays you can have a 600HP FWD vehicle but it will NOT be allowed to produce that level of HP/torque in 1st or 2nd, or even 3rd gear when turning tightly and much of the tire's traction must be allocated to lateral forces.
