Reserved the last BEGI kit today.

Here's an update. My block, along with all 4 pistons and rings are off at the machine shop now. There is a problem. The oil squriters under the pistons are giving them problems. They are trying to remove them without breaking them. Has anyone else (MP3-Owner) had this problem? Is there a way to remove these without damage? If so could you please help me out?!!:( The shop manual did not say anything about them. I hope to have my car back for a road trip to Houston next week, but I don't know...:'(

Oh yeah...I also found out my engine is a long block. The US versions are short blocks. What is the difference?

Oh yeah, The shop manual is definitely worth it! It tells you how to do just about everything...in detail!

A protege shop manual? How much? where can you get them?

I went to the dealer today for a shop manual. They are on back order!

Here in Canada, they cost $195 canadian. A bit expensive for a shop manual.

I believe the oil suirters are pressed into place and my machine shop had the same problem. They had never seen anything like them before but luckily my mechanic had an idea and helped get them out. i am not sure how they did it but I think they twisted them out, i will talk to them tommorow and find out. I do know that once they got them out they were too damaged to reuse them.

I'll get back to you Patrick.

I am pretty sure that the terms short block and long block are terms that are used to describe all engines when rebuilding them. For instance a short block refers to the Block itself with just the pistons in place and a long block refers to the block, pistons, head and all the accesories.

Ok Patrick here it is...

The oil squirter's are pressed into position so in order to get them out you need to get a slide hammer with something like a vice grip head to grad it with and yank it out. They will all be destroyed in the process and they cost $18.13 a peice from the dealer.
I got some pictures from my mechanic for you...

Oh well for some reason I can't get the other pic to show up. I tried everything but this should give you an idea.

happy birthday, congratulations, I'll get the cigars and brandy, let me know if it's a boy or girl.

The kit is tight. There are 9 items on Back Order, which should be with me this week. All that power just sitting around in a box! I want my car back dammit!!!

I just talked to the shop, and they say my car probably wont be ready until next week. A whole f*ckin month they had my car!
This will keep me from bringing my car to the thing at the NASA Space center for the Mazdaspeed! My block is there, but they say they have to honor others' rides who where brought in while my car was just sitting there waiting on parts. They are now waiting on some main bearings. I guess they figured if everything else is gonna be pracitically new, why not those! I trust them, and they do a good job, but they sure teach you patience! This phuckin sucks!!! They say I could pay them for what they have done, and send it to somewhere else. :wtf:

Poor Linux man, I'm sure they are finding yoru car to be a b**** and the shop is apparntly ignorant to your car - well it will all work out don't worry - with all this crap being done to you car tho, damn man when it all comes together, just remember - you are gonan have the bitchenist car (yes I just christined that word!)

Thanks Equinox! Did you see me at the Car Toys Car Show here in Arlington? I saw InitialRes. I saw your ride though. It reminded me of some else's ride at 1st, but it was tight!!!:D

I talked to the car shop today, and they say that it is gonna cost me....get this.......$4,000 for what they have done!
My mouth went like this:
(omg)
I knew it would be over 2 grand, but they say that the pistons were $800, and the rings were another $200 plus! The labor is a little over $2,000. Then there is the head gasket set, the rod bearings, main bearings. The only reason I took this route was because I was told that it would be cheaper than getting a short block. Did I get (upbum) ? This is really frustrating s***! (bang) Does anyone have any alternative solutions? Please let me know.

Holy god man. :flip: :wtf:

You could've gotten like the Begi Kit AND the Tripoint Kit!!!!!

:'(
