Why does anyone go to dealers, except for warranty issues?

I never do. Never!

And thankfully; the last few cars I have owned never had to visit the dealer but maybe once per car. So; once I make my purchase, that is about all they will see of me.

yea, not to go off topic or anything, but i remember i went to a subaru dealership to get info on the new STi's that came out. The dealer tried to tell me its going to have 400hp and its a TWIN TURBO!

But i just have real bad experiences w/ dealers, so maybe my luck, i get the bad ones....

AGR,

I think it is the warranty issues which are driving some crazy (like the stumble and clunk)

Right! The stumble, I live with - knowing the dealer will do nothing, unless this ECU upgrade happens. (Joe's - kwiktsi) fix is probably better, anyway).
The Clunk. What Clunk?

not to sound stupid, but what about scheduled tune ups, like 15000 mile, 30000 mile.... and so on.
or do you do everything yourself?

bulls*** on scheduled Tune ups: 100,000 miles is common now for tune ups! Unless, you begin having troubles.

You must be a lucky guy that doesn't have a clunk (mine does it sometimes, not all....)

(peep)Either that or you're getting old and can't hear it! :D hhahahah J/K

Yo Dex! Check your PM.

The "common person" has been mystified into thinking that if they take their new car elsewhere, they will void their warranty.
That's why people continue to go, and continue to keep partially educated mechanics fed.
I do my work myself, or if I have no time or inclination, take it to a mechanic I know who knows cars!!

I really don't think the clunk exsists. I was driving arpund with a heavy box in the trunk. No clunk. I think the clunk is the spare tire wooden cover.

Hey RamRod, no it is not "just your luck." I have yet to visit any dealership that is worth spit in the 27 years that I've been alive. They're all ridiculous a-holes that talk out of their arse and expect you'll believe whatever they say. Something needs to be done.

You better run for cover

j/k :)

There is a problem with the Rear bushings on the Speeds, and Mp3's. There will be the same problem on the 2003.5's as well since they have the same bushings.

This problem has been identified by Mazda Corporate, and confirmed that it is indeed the bushings ( Thanks to various members and their efforts from the mp3 section and some msp guys as well), a fix is on the way, their serious about this. If you got it, be patient, if you don't have it, your one of the very few, so feel lucky.

I'm not meaning to come off like an ass, just informing you that there is a problem, and you will more then likely see it at some time.

On another note, the Mazdaspeed here was owned by a Mazda worker. I asked him if He had the clunk....he didn't know. I got in his car the 2nd day he had it, drove it 10 feet and said....you got it, he insisted that he never, and it was the sub enclosure making the noise. The Clunk was in the early stages, very quiet, but it was there. Sure enough, 1 month later, the clunk was in full effect, and he too is now replacing bushings every month like me.

Just because your car isn't making a noise, do not ever say it does not exist as you are ruining the effort by those who are trying to get something done for the hundreds that have the clunk. I know when I asked for emails from people who had the clunk, I got flooded by emails from everywhere in Canada and the states. I went to Mazda with sheets of names in my hand. So, the clunk DOES exist.

I don't like to go to the dealer if I don't have to. I go there because there are things wrong with the car that should be fixed under warranty. I was trying to establish a good relationship with them to make things smoother..but it seems they are just being lame but since it's the only one around I have to go and put up with their bull s***. If I was a guru car tech I could fix everything myself...But I'm not...so I am basically stuck with the dealer...

How about you go to anyone who has it and go for a ride on a cool day? Let me know about the "non-existant" clunk after backing out of my driveway at 2-3mph if it's below 40 degrees. I promise you, it's for real. I thought a little bit like you until I had it start for the first time.
