Reducing oil consumption.

Well, since the ports are basically in 2 different runners, I'd say they did it that way so that combustion of vapors is divided between 2 cylinders rather than going straight into 1 cylinder. Probably won't make too much of a difference, but the logic is probably something along those lines.

I see what you are saying but since I am still a lil noobish around the edges and still have much to learn about cars, I don't understand what would be the advantage of dividing the combustion of vapors between 2 cylinders as opposed to just 1. Is it safe for me to just use one like daedalus?

Sub...

Reading stuff like this makes me worried.

*Runs out to check oil level after work!*
Sooo, checked oil level and it appears I've burned just about 1 qt. in 2-1/2 months and I think about 2500 miles. Not as bad as some ppl have mentioned here but it's a bit disconcerning. I wish I had a catch can so I could at least see this. Well I went ahead and put in a millenia pcv but I don't think that'll work. I'll give it til the next oil change (probably within a month) before decided I need to go with this KV thing...

just shy of 53k. I just don't ever remember it being that bad... I think I'm going to get a catch can just to see if this is being caused by the blow-by or just by the engine's age.

i'm just shy of 99K and i realy don't use any between changes...every 3k miles...i've never let it go longer so i'm not sure if i'm using any...i'm using the millenia pvc valve??

Yeah I always change at 3k miles but it's still a bit disturbing to realize by that time I would have been down like 1.5 qts. I jusy switched to the millenia pcv valve to see if it does anything although I'm not optimistic after reading this thread... we'll see...

I've always been curious: why do so many MSPs burn oil, and why doesn't mine? Granted, I don't take it up to redline every day (maybe once every few days), but I don't baby it by any means.

Also, what happens to all the coolant I dump in?

im not easy on my car at all and mine doesnt burn any oil either.

Mine (NA) gets redlined alot, every day and never used any oil until after the 100,000km change. Then oil quickly darkened and started using about 0.5L/5,000km. Dealer mechanic said they haven't changed the type of oil, but I'm suspicious, it just looks different. I hope this doesn't get too much worse when I boost...

Ok so after nearly two weeks of no blow-by with the Millenia PCV valve I noticed oil on the PC lines today - quite a bit in fact, more so than stock. It looks like I'm going to have to go with the Krank Vents. This and the low oil pressure I've been having lately has got me worried, bad piston ring? Unfortunately I have no means for a compression test.

my car is drinking oil like if it was FREE!

wTf?

HE HE. (thumb). I know how you feel. My car is at the point where I dont even have to change the oil. I put like 4 quarts of oil in between oil changes.

do you have a coolant leak? i had a TINY one and i noticed the coolant getting low every few weeks. so i fixed the leak and now the coolant stays at a normal level.

i'm not sure why so many MSPs burn oil. Mine burns about less than half a quart every 5000 miles. so that is totally acceptable to me. i figure it's turbo and it will use up a little more oil than an NA.

does anybody use Lucas oil additives?

i use lucas additives
it does nothing regarding oil consumption

i think is just a waste of money

i have also tried heavy duty oil 20w50 synthetic oil and still the same
