I wanted to ask, what is the drop on Racing Beat P5 springs? Also, what can be causing my P5 to sputter when at low RPMs when taking off? When it starts sputtering I give it more gas and it does not sputter.
The racing beat springs (Specific for protege and p5, not the MSP version) gave me an inch in the front, maybe more. It was honestly more drop in the front than I was really after. The back is about perfect though at the average 3/4 of an inch that they advertise.
This is at the front of my mind because I just dealt with this issue. Your rough idle could be caused by a vacuum leak (crack or tear in your intake hose). You may not throw a CEL right away but eventually you should as things get worse. My old intake hose was cracked (not surprising given the age) and I electrical taped it for about 6 months until the cel came back and the tears got worse.
Thank you so much carter1551, the car has an intake but, I did replace the MAF Sensor yesterday. It is my wife's car so I am having her tested today to see if the problem goes away. My next guess is to replace the spark plug wires as they are old but the coils are brand new. If you have any other suggestions please feel free to comment as I am going with trial and error here since there is no CEL and I have plug it to the scanner and there are no pending codes. Once again thanks for your comment.
The springs from the MSP are a different height to compensate for the different struts. (The MSP uses a slightly rear strut if I'm not mistaken, so the rear spring is a different height).
As far as your idle though, make sure your intake dosent have any leaks (the carb. cleaner test would work here, just don't spray the exhaust). Next up, I'd replace those plug wires. You may have gotten a bad coil out of the box (it can happen). What brand of coils did you use?
You might pull the plugs and see how they're looking as well.
The_big_dill last night I decided to switch the spark plug wires from my other P5 to the one giving me the sputtering problem and the next thing you know the problem transferred to my other P5. I am buying a replacement set of wires and hope that the wires were the problem. Thanks for all of your support.
