Question about a 93 MX6

my buddy just had a 93 MX-6 given to him that is a real pile. its got the SOHC 2.2 l motor and i was wondering what other motors can mount to the same stock mounts. i know that FE22 turbo is one but i was wondering if the BP mounts up.. or possibly any K-series motors...thanx

The F2T is an option.



You might want to look into the FE3 as well. It's basically the BP's big brother, but better in just about every way.

oh F2t thats what i meant not fe22... ive heard of the fe3 but not much... what makes it better? he really wants a turbo motor. is the fe3 worth boosting?

It wouldn't mount very easily, that's for sure.

Something is not right here. The 93 MX-6 came with two engines, either a 2.0L I4 or a 2.5L v6. I think the 92 and earlier may have had a 2.2 I4 but I don't know about them. I have a 93 MX-6 LS V6. Here is a picture of it autocrossing.

Ahh, good call. With a quick google search, it seems that the change-over year was, indeed, 93. The two engines offered during the 93-97 MY were the (older) FSDE I4, and some varient of the KL series V6. With that, a totally different can of worms is opened.

Danny, you may want to have your buddy check the year on is MX6. If there is a plate on the intake manifold stating "2.2L Fuel Injection", then it's a 92 or older.

As a side note, it's my opinion that this thread should be moved to the "All Mazdas" forum. It's a better place to archive such info.

those old 2.2 in the 92 mx6 were decent. my inlaws went for 240k and was still going good, the front rack rusted out and the car was donated but could still be going to this day lol.
